Tire age?

I just bought 4 new GY F1 G2's from discount tire. I took them the loose wheels as I have the car up on jack stands getting brakes and suspension ready for road course event next month.
One is a 2015 tire
Two are 2014
And one is a 2013

I haven't mounted them on the car yet.

Opinions?

I have heard that tire rubber worsens over time ... it will probably depend on the type of compound and how it was stored on how quickly the tire degrades

I replace my 888s after a year and 20+ track sessions... still had some tread depth...

I think yours will be fine ... here is a snipit from tire rack website

It is important to take into account Original Equipment tires are mounted on wheels and put into service right after being received by vehicle manufacturers, so their calendar age begins immediately. However the same cannot be said of tires properly stored in a tire manufacturers' warehouse or in Tire Rack distribution centers before they go into service. Properly stored tires that are protected from the elements and not mounted on a wheel age very slowly before they are mounted and put into service.

Our experience has been that when properly stored and cared for, most street tires have a useful life in service of between six to ten years. And while part of that time is spent as the tire travels from the manufacturing plant to the manufacturer's distribution center, to the retailer and to you, the remainder is the time it spends on your vehicle.

You know I wanted to try the R888's or the NT01's but they said they couldn't do them because the load rating was lower than OEM recommendations.

I ran the 888s last year no issues... hot psi was 34...

Car is 4400# fueled one driver, had passengers occasionally that put it ~4600#

888s i ran last year, The fronts are 100y and rears 101y

That is 1764# and 1819# per tire

Good for 186mph

Stock is 100y/104y=1764#/1984# 186mpg

I'm sure they can support the weight of the car. But does lower load ratings mean the side wall is softer and therefore more squirm in the rear.

there is no squirm or instability... only time you will see that is with a drag radial and mainly when those are aired down for max grip.

888s and NT01s have a stiff sidewall for road work

As far as tire age...
I work part time for a diesel performance shop, running trucks around for parts, etc. I took a truck to Discount Tires for new valve stems, and the manager looked at the numbers on all four tires and told me that they were all 9 years old. He said that any tire that is 10 yrs old is untouchable by them - DOT pretty much tells them that at that age tires are unsafe and shouldn't be on the road. Wouldn't think that any of us would have tires still usable at that age, but one never knows! Just my $.02

Bryan, I know most tire manufactures shelf life is six years. However I purchased a set of yokohama's after having a set that were great on my company car, the second set were the same tire but after mounting I notice the manufacturing date showed the tires being 4 years old and they only provided have the wear life vs the 1st set. I think the rubber just deteriorated on the shelf. That is one of the first things I check for when purchasing tires now.

Most tires shouldn't be mounted if 10 years or older, performance tires are half that. 5 years at the oldest otherwise you lose performance. Buying them brand new I wouldn't accept a tire that was more than a year or 2 at most old.
