Oshawa, Ontario GM Plant To Build Second RWD Vehicle

Quote:
The tentative agreement announced earlier today between the Canadian Auto Workers and the General apparently contains provisions for, among other things, increased GM investment in production of a new vehicle at the Oshawa, Ontario plant. Why does this plant sound so familiar? Well, it's probably because it's where the 2010 Chevy Camaro will be built. Although it's unknown what this second vehicle they'll be building there later this year will be, we do know it'll be rear-wheel drive. Feel free to go ahead and begin your speculation after the jump, but our money's on a large Cadillac or a Buick, maybe even a Caprice! The opportunities feel endless! But what say you?

If you ask me, why not build the G8 there? Wouldn't that be the logical car to be built there?

It seems with all of the possible variations of the G8, that makes the most sense.

GXP maybe? I'd say some sort of G8 or maybe CTS. Or else the Bat mobile.

+4. Why not the G8? What chassis is the CTS on? I can't seem to find what it's supposed to be on; is it because it is on it's own dedicated chassis?

it is on the sigma platform... there is talk of merging sigma and zeta because they are brother platforms...

I'm thinking GTO, but Buick needs a nice rear drive car too. Trans Am is dead. G8 is extremely similar to several other cars sold around the world. It's probably cheaper for GM to ship cars from australia than to make a second production line in Canada.

As I said in the other thread. The story has been covered at GMinsidenews, and this announcement is about Buick or Caddy. Buick is thinking about a Lucerne replacement based on the Zeta much like the Buick Zeta cars in China, and Caddy is replacing the STS and DTS with one Zeta based car (that is conformed and in the works). That isn't to say that GM couldn't do a Zeta Chevy in the future but that is way in the future at this point.

Hmm... That's interesting. I haven't read that yet, but I miss a lot. STS and DTS were on seperate chassis before so that's pretty cool I guess. If that helps bring the price of Camaro down, and/or develope the car better, then why not?

Here is one of the relevant threads. I hope it's ok to cross reference another blog. This is such a specialty place that I would think it's kosher especially since GMinsidenews is so broad and on topic for the Camaro.
