The window sticker had the EPA estimate for my car at 29hwy/17city with an average of 21. The last long-term (about 8K mi) average mpg I recorded was 20.9. Guess my car can read...

Well, it's called a "tonneau" cover. Hard to believe you wouldn't use it. You apparently don't mind seeing the top flap around in your rear view mirror. It certainly completes the look of the car with top down and no doubt decreases drag slightly. I very rarely drive top down without it installed.

Muscle car enthusiasts generally prefer to brag about how few MPG they are getting vs. how fuel economic their beasts are. Just sayin....

In that case, I will reveal that I only get 16 mph.

Every convertible I've owned in the past 28yrs came with a "top boot", so that's why I call it that. When I hear tonneau cover, I think of what's shown in the pic below. I look forward when I drive so I barely notice the flapping. And you're right, I don't give a rat's ass about it or most things people whine about for that matter. If I used the cover on this last trip, the interior would have gotten way wetter when I ran into some rain with the top down. It already takes 20+ seconds to raise the top - who needs the extra aggravation??? If I wanted to get out of my car to raise the top, then I'd drive my Chevelle...

TOP UP VS DOWN MPG

Don't see much of a difference up or down

If I am doing short trips where I need to put the top up I dont use the tonneau. Had it on today

I'm too busy enjoying mine to even notice the fuel mileage.......However when I took a road trip down to the coast I resit the DIC and when I got there it read 28.5 MPGs, but on the way back it ended up at 24.5, because I really opened it up on the way back

Though most of y'all probably are quite fully aware, that comparing mileage for such short distances (65 miles, 150 miles, etc) is not going to be very revealing. Driving conditions, including the aggressiveness of acceleration, traffic, A/C on/off, weather (especially wind, temp, and humidity), and the grade of the road (downhill vs uphill?) can all have HUGE impacts on the mileage.

Also, the DIC readings on my car are not very accurate ... and almost always show higher than calculated mileage (usually by 0.5+ MPG).

Mileage on my SS varies, most of my driving is short trips where the engine doesn't get a chance to warm up fully and so mileage suffers. I generally am getting about 16-17 MPG. On long road trips, I can get as high as 23.5 MPG measured on the full tank of gas if I am taking it easy on acceleration and fairly constant speeds (generally in the 70-78 range).

Personally, I don't drive with the top up enough to gather enough useful data to compare up vs down.

Chevrolet calls it a "tonneau" so that's what I call it.
