Cool Blacked out front bowtie

Its midnight, I'm bored so here we go.

Completely blacking out my stock front bowtie with flat black. I got the idea off my friend's o-10 mustang GT, the front pony emblem is blacked out. I tried for the life of me to remove the bowtie to paint it separately but failed. I couldn't see the tabs so I had no idea if I had to pry them up or down. I couldn't feel the vertical tab either... argh!! Anyway, after feeling sore fingertips and determined, I just masked off the entire front end with about 10sheets of cut up plastic trash bag. "If you think paint will get there, then it will." So I overlapped the sheets onto each other and sealed the overlaps with tape.

Made a "wall of tape" that stuck to the back of the bowtie and attached to the sheets to prevent spray from going into the grill. I'm pretty sure no paint will get in, but I'll see tomorrow. Or next time I wash it...

I sanded down the bowtie, cleaned, dried, applied 2 coats of adhesion promoter, then 3 light coats about 15min apart of flat black. Very light coats to prevent running/dripping. I liked how the paint look while it was wet so I decided to throw on 3 layers of clear coat. Letting dry overnight. Daylight pics tomorrow. For now I think it looks bada$$, I cant wait for some sunlight! Enjoy!

Yes, getting the bowtie off was a pain in the ass, looks good I just finished mine up last night. I don't know if I should put anymore clear coat or leave it like it is.

I thought I would like it just flat no clear, but after seeing the paint wet and then dry changed my mind. I'll take another pic today since it's not raining anymore. 3 coats came out nice.

Yes, but a sticker only covers the gold center and not the whole bowtie.
