Updated - Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60s/new rims on 2LT RS

One of the choices for Performance Winter Snow tires is the Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25 which Tirerack has available for 18" wheels as 225/60R18 @$153/each or the LM-60 (new release which replaces the LM-25 model) for 20" wheels as 245/45R20 @$260 each - link http://www.tirerack.com/snow/WinterP...autoModClar=LT. You can view the choices by wheel size. There is a $50 AmEx gift card for ordering before Oct 9.

Both are before adding the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) @ $61/each $244 total to what rims you order. Consumer Reports rated the LM-25 as "Recommended" and its performance in ice and snow traction were superior to other tires reviewed - no info on the new LM-60 though.

I know members have experience with Bridgestones - anyone have direct experience with the Blizzak's ?

I am about to order the LM-60s (see pic) with new rims (see pic - these are "Sport Edition ST4 @$89 each) - I want to keep the 20" wheel size over the 18" and as a) I will not use the RS rims and take the recommendations to leave the summer Pirelli's on the RS rims to avoid future issues with the rims taking tires on/off and b) not interested in the Pirelli Scorpions that fit the RS split tire sizes as offered at Tirerack.

I had looked at Discount Tire's 20" packages using the Hankook Ventus ST RHO6 but these weren't rated well for Snow Traction though the package price with rims was very attractive. Here's a link if you're interested in seeing these: http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...=20&vid=016112

Thoughts? Thanks all for any input...

I had a set of Blizzak's on the wife's car.. best winter tires you can get! I could drive in 9" of untracked snow! Car was a snowplow!

You want "tall and skinny" for the winter and you should get around fine.

Don't go wide.. they will lose grip on snow.

Had that tire on my grand am before i sold it. EXCELLENT tire. People complain about the tread life on these tires, but after a full season (put them on in late oct last year) they looked great after the season was done.

Highly recommended.

I run the LM25's on my GTO, they are very good, nearly as good of grip as the WS60's but much better handling and drivabiliy.

The WS series are very 'squishy' while the LM series are not, they have a much stiffer side wall. But the loose the Ice gripping ability that the WS series has.

I run a Bridgestone Corporate Store, if you have any more questions let me know.

I got a set of LS 18" rims for $300 here on this site, I am getting the Pirelli Scorpion Ice and snow tires from Tirerack at $169 each (245x55x18) Blizzak aren't known for a long tire life nor are they a very deep tread to begin with. Since when is less rubber on the road more traction.....hogwash!

Thanks for the feedback - isn't the WS60 an SUV/Truck snow tire?

The new Blizzak passenger car tire is the LM-60 which replaces the older LM-25s and others - any news on that specific tire? I appreciate the input from all.

no the WS50 and WS60 are both passenger car tires

The LM22, LM25, and LM60 are performance snow tires

The DM line and the LM 4x4 lines are for SUV and Truck

OK - thanks for the clarification - I'm going with the LM-60s for the 20" and perhaps as a newer version the wear will be better. I'm only running these and the Camaro sparingly in the Winter months - just don't want to be put into a situation when I need snow tires over all-seasons. When these go in a few years and the summer Pirelli's I'll shop for then-current Performance All-Seasons on either rims I'll have...

Almost everyone I work with use that tire exclusively in the winter months.

I have them for my 2007 ImpalaSS (LM-25's) and they work well in Michigan Winters, this is my second season with them and they have 85% tread left. Great tires, u should try them.

Thinner and taller "track" thru the snow....short and fat pushes it like a plow and you get less traction. This applys to trucks and the CAMARO will be the same being so close to the ground.

Thanks all for the feedback - Yesterday I ordered the Bridsgestone Blizzak LM-60s 245/45R20 @ $260 each and the Sport Edition ST4 rims @ $89 each (see post #1 this thread for pics), TPMS Sensors @ $57 each and shipping at $98 from Tirerack - grand total $1,738 - already shipped this morning straight to my Dealer who will mount them in late Oct and store the Pirellis/RS Rims for the Winter. When they're delivered I will stop by the Dealer to ensure the order is correct to avoid any issues later.

I will post pics late October with these on the Camaro.

Hey tjd24, a couple of questions concerning the snow tires. First, when I searched for winter tires for an SS, the preferred package was 18" Blizzak's with Sport Edition 18" rims, for $1,248. Will these actually clear the calipers? Second, assuming I want to stick with 20", the only combo I could find were the Blizzak's @ $260/ea, but the rims were $1,440/ea!!! I couldn't even find the Sport Edition ST4 rims on their site. Am I missing something? If the 18" wheels clear the calipers, wouldn't that be better than the 20's?? Just curious, because I need to make a decision for this winter.
