2013 2SS w/ Dual Mode Rattling sound fix????
Alright folks I think I finally have something to contribute after all the help everyone here has given me. I was under the car installing my skip shift this afternoon, and I think I found the fix to the high pitched rattle some of us have experiences. The clamp where the exhaust manifold that is even with the transmission has some sort of a clip on it with a round disk wedged into. I tapped the exhaust with a screwdriver and it rattled. I stuck the screwdriver in the tab and got the disc out then hit the tab with a hammer a few times to knock it back to a tight position, then stuck the disc back in. After I got the skip shift installed, I drove it around the block and held it at 1k rpms which is the sweet spot for it to occur, and I never heard it. Hope this helps someone cause that rattle was driving me crazy..... I will know for sure when i get to the parking garage tomorrow. This was on the driver side, but I always heard the noise from what i thought was the passenger side.

My dual mode rattle was a piece of weld that broke off inside the muffler.
They found it and no more rattle Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2

Well after I get in the parking garage tomorrow, I'll know if I fixed it or not, but i didn't hear it on my drive so I'm pretty sure the rattle is gone. I could pinpoint it to around the transmission area jut by listening to it, so I didn't think it was as far back as the mufflers. As for your issue, did they tell you which part it was? And how easy it was to get to?

That disc should not have come out. It should be permanently welded into place.
The clip helps align the clamp and keep it in place when aligning the exhaust before tightening the clamp.

Are you sure? Theres not a trace of a weld on either side. I checked while i was under there. What is the purpose of the disc? Can I just take them out if my problem is solved?

It should be spot welded on. To slide the clamp off you pull the retaining clip up so it will slide back over the disc. Even if your clamp bolts come loose, the clamp will remain where it is, and the exhaust will not fall off the car.

Haha, well, its defiantly not welded and I took the disk out to fix it. For now, I'm going to leave it the way it is. No point is taking it in to get it fixed since id probably get it back with a new ding and a couple of scratches for good measure. Lol

It shouldn't have come off, and if it rattling around in there that is the cause of your problem??
If that clamp ever loosens, the exhaust will drop. The clamp on the other side will help it from coming down all the way.

I'm guessing its the problem. I only installed the skip shift, and bent that tab in. It didn't make the rattling noise on the test drive after the install. It has made the noise since the day I got it home. I've owned alota cars in 15 years, and never had a single one have its exhaust loosen on its own. I'm not going to worry about it to much. I got a local muffler shop that I will get to fix it if I ever feel the need to because we all know I would have to leave it all day to get two tiny welds done.

When you bent the tab in, it is probably holding the piece it tighter.
It may loosen up and start rattling again. If it starts rattling again I'd take that piece back out and keep it just in case. Good luck.

Alright, got in the parking garage and not even a hint of a rattle. If your hearing the rattle, its worth the five minutes it takes to check it out.
