SS vs C5 Z06

Im going to be doing the Hot Rod Power Tour next week with my buddy and his C5 Z06. I'm looking forward to taking my SS down the quarter mile in at Gateway in St. Louis and was wondering if I have any chance at all against my buddies C5 Z06. I believe its an 02 rated at 405 hp with his only mod being a borla cat back. I have a 14 SS with CAI and Solo HFCs. Both cars are M6s. I know with an equal driver the vette should take the Camaro every time but this is the first time down the strip for both of us. I have more seat time in my car and know it a little better. He only brings his out on nice days and mines a dd.

So basically how bad does he have to mess up for me to take him?

I own a intake header exhaust tune L99 camaro ss

I also garage a 01 c5 corvette that i take out sometimes.

An although my two cars are a bit different than yours and his. In my opinion how effectively you get out of the hole without wheel spin will greatly dictate the race. The advantage is going to be in his favor but the both of your 60' times and reaction will play HUGE factors as to who stays ahead.

Do a decent burnout in the water box and practice your launching and you can potentially edge him out.

Wow you really think so? C5 is hundreds of lbs lighter, Hella more aerodynamic, not much of a hp disadvantage.... I know there are millions of variables from driver to driver but the c5z (car for car) is a faster car. Doesn't necessarily mean he's crossing finish line first tho lol

Bring some DR and do some weight reduction. About 800ibs difference. 02 Z06 I would say a good mid 12sec car of course driver input.

Like I said. Not going to be in your favor. But if you can out 60' him you have a chance. They run mid 12's stock With a formidable driver. Your car can potentially run that as well.

As others have said the C5 Z06 has the biggest advantages over you but as in every race, it always comes down to the driver.

Your completely right. I know I will have fun running down the strip but beating him to the finish would just be icing on the cake.

That would make the day......I ran a challenger 392 scat pack last weekend. I thought I would lose. It's when I had him all the way down the track but he edged me out in the last few feet that the adrenaline took charge. I lost but damn it felt good.

I have owned a c5 z06. I now own an SS 1LE. There is absolutely NO contest on which one is going to be faster at the drag strip if both drivers have similar skill. Unless youre john force and your friend is miss daisy, i see you taking a beat down at the 1/4.

A little update. The Vette ran into electrical problems in Champaign and didn't make it to the drag strip so he didn't get to run but I did get to make a pass. I was a little upset with myself for making a couple rookie mistakes but hey I am a rookie so its all good. First I didn't turn traction control off so when I tried to do a little burnout it killed. Feeling embarrassed I turned it off and did a nice proper burn out. Pulled up and staged and like everyone said I left on the last yellow and I was pretty happy with my RT. Left a little hard though and had a little wheel hop but my biggest mistake was not getting a clean shift into third. Considering my mistakes, having a trunk completely full with luggage for four people, and having a passenger I don't think I did all that bad. We got there too late to have time for another pass so I'll have to live with that for now. I had a blast and am looking forward to getting back on the strip to redeem myself.
I was the right lane.
