160 degree thermostat..?
I have seen a few threads on this and it is unclear as to whether or not I personally should do this...
I am going to have a 28%OD pulley put on here shortly, would this benefit me and the higher temps this will cause, or am I better off leaving the thermostat stock? |

do it...easy swap and there are no negatives with it. My Z/28 has a factory 160 thermostat so I suppose GM is taking a different stance on the seemingly winless argument.

JMOP...when Chevy was looking at the gas guzzler tax, the 160 degree thermostat did not make a diff on the LS7.

So does the GM 160 deg thermostat fit other LS engines. I think there are only two designs, the early LS1s and everything else later.

There is so much back and forth in these threads about the 160 degree tstat... It really makes it hard to make a decision based on FACTS.

early style LS1 the water neck and thermostat was one piece...now the thermostat is separate from the water neck. So, yes...only two designs.

2. If it's a race motor and gets the oil changed after every race or two, then oil sludge, because the motor never gets hot enough to burn it off, isn't a problem Street cars/motor are likely to face both #1 and #2, so use at your own risk. Last edited by BigBlock69RS; 07-17-2015 at 08:02 PM. |
