Wheel hop

I've been doing a bunch of reading on wheel hop and how to reduce it but I have a question...does it make sense that the car hops worse on wet or damp pavement?

Weather has been marginal since I bought the car but I'm surprised at how much worse it seems to hop just accelerating (no launch) on damp/wet streets vs dry, plus it doesn't seem to matter if the traction control is on or off. Last time I had car hop bad, it destroyed the transmission in my WRX...

Thanks,
Larry

Do NOT leave the traction control on when spinning the wheels. The rear brakes will pulsate to get the spinning under control which will shock the driveline pretty fiercely.

  • G2s: Rock throwing is like like a tramp stamp; although problematic, it's a sign of good things to come.

A lot of stick shift sporty cars get wheel hop, might want to look into swapping in some aftermarket suspension parts out back.

Is the competition mode good enough or do I need the full defeat? I'm fine with controlling wheel spin with my right foot.

The following parts have been proven to reduce wheel hop, we never got to testing them on our 2015 1LE but they will be for 2016.

BMR Trailing Arms (TCA026), BMR Poly Subframe Bushings and BMR Poly Diff Carrier Bushings.

I have BMR toe rods, trailing arms and cradle bushings.
From 440rwhp to 680rwhp zero wheel hop on my LS3.

Straight outta the owners manual:

Competitive Driving Mode (SS
and ZL1 Convertible Only):
Competitive Driving Mode allows full
engine power while the StabiliTrak
system helps maintain directional
control of the vehicle by selective
brake application. In this mode, TCS
is off
and Launch Control is
available.

That stuff didn't help get rid of my wheel hop (BMR Poly Urethane Subframe, Toe Rod and Trailing Arm Bushings as well as replacing the entire Toe Rods and Trailing Arms themselves)...
I have a negative camber of only -.5 as well in the rear... If anyone has any further suggestions that would be appreciated... Right now I am looking at getting Delrin Subframe bushings... Any thoughts?

Here's my recipe for wheel hop, minus the poly cradle bushings, they were on backorder. I've never had wheel hop but I've got a CircleD high stall triple disc going in now so I'm taking preventative measures.

I still wheel'd hopped bad last night. They added some of that sticky stuff and heated it up. I thought I was just going to take off but I still started spinning and wheel hopped like crazy. I have bmr trailing arms with bushings and lg motorsports cradle bushings along with the offset diff delrin bushings. Street tires
