GMPP Air Box upgrade
Just wondering how the Air Box from GMPP will affect some stuff on the car. It is the only mod I am looking at due to price. I searched but did not find much specific info for the LLT on this.
So basically I was wondering about MPG, hp/tq, sound, and reliability/longevity. And if I do get one I can get it after I have the car and just have the dealer install it right? Thanks in advance! |

well to start from the top, I doubt it will affect MPG much. The HP/Tq increase will be minimal but hard to say without actually having it dynoed. It definitely looks like a better choice over the stock airbox but I wouldn't expect any crazy power bumps. I'd say expect 5 HP at the most out of the set up.
The intake sound will probably be louder due to the fact that it is sucking in more air. I know this to be true when I made my intake for my car, it was a lot louder of the stock air box. The reliability should be just as good as a stock setup. I wouldn't worry about it breaking anymore than a stock intake or voiding anything since its a GM part. It's hard to say how long the filter will last but I would say clean it (if its a reusable filter) when you change your oil and you should be fine. I'm sure you can get it installed by the dealer at any point in time, but if you know how to turn a wrench you could do it yourself. Intake filters and pipes are one of the easiest things to take apart on a car.

The intake upgrade that D3 did the the CTS netted 13 horsepower at the wheels, with no tune. This was dyno proven.
Bear in mind you're be able to get the same results with a cheaper system. The GMPP intake is a bit on the expensive side. - Xanthos

O wow. maybe I was wrong about the power gain then. The D3 looks very similar to the GM set, about the only difference I see is the D3 has not lid over the filter, which you can leave off with the GM set. It $425 or $450 if you want chrome. The GM is $450 or about $500 installed, so if you installed your GM part yourself, you might save $25 by getting the D3. I would say its a moot point, the GM piece will not void the warranty, where as the D3 might.

I am still waiting for price on Airbox, Catback Exhaust, shorty headers and grille insert. Where did you find prices for GMPP stuff for the Camaro?

I don't see a price for the headers but I think those are a huge waste of money.
