Replacement key?
Hello everyone,
I'm new to this forum, and I purchased my camaro about two weeks ago. At the time they couldn't find the second key, and said they would order me one. I picked up the replacement and it's the switchblade design, my original is just a regular key. I thought these were recalled? Since it came from GM is this one fixed? |

The switchblade key is the Recalled One. Someone must have given you the original switchblade by mistake or not knowing. The dealers are supposed to replace ALL the switchblade type with the cheap GM fix.

First off, Welcome!!!
When you take it to them to have it cut, they will probably change it out. But yes, that is the recalled style. I like it better, but didn't have a choice. They did the recall before we could take delivery. |

Should I return to the dealer then? To get a second one like you posted? I've been trying the switch blade one and I don't see how my knee would hit it. Thank you I've been wanting to own one since the 5th generation came out. I'm kind of kicking myself for not getting a V8, but at 23 and still in school, this was more affordable for me. A big plus is it's the exact configuration I've always wanted, minus the V8.

The key is already cut, and fully functional. Came shipped from GM themselves. I'm just wondering if I should return to the dealer to swap it for a separate key.

One thing to keep in mind on the key, some people have said (has not happened to me though so I cannot confirm it to be true) that if you have a recall issue that you do not have addressed, the Insurance company may be able to use that against you if you have a claim. If you don't mind the separated key, that may be the best option, or just keep the switchblade as a spare. I wish we could have kept the original style, but we did not get the option and as my wife can drive the car when she wants, I want her to be completely safe. |

Nice ride. It looks like the twin to my car, different year though. I guess it would be the younger brother to my car.

I took in my car for service recently and was told of the recall. I was given the option for the key. I declined. If this were to be an issue concerning my warranty I would ditch my car immediately and go buy an M4 or Cayman GTS.

If you like the switchblade key just keep it and roll with it... It's your car.
I declined the key replacement, it's quite ok my car will not self destruct. GM will honor the recall even 10 years down the road for anyone that owns the car that wants it done. Everybody relax!

You don't have to give your switchblade back if you already have one you can just sign a waiver and keep it. I went I'm for my first oil change and the service manger ask if I like it so I did and just sign the waiver and that was it, they don't make them anymore but if you already have one you can keep

Nice ride, congrats. Keep the key & forget about it.
I'm a bit surprised GM sent that key out. Kudos for doing it though. |
