Talk to an automotive engineer (I have) and the will tell you that anything more than 87 octane in the V6 Camaro is a waste of money.

I tried 87 in my V6, and it was OK, but just didn't seem smooth enough. Went to 91, and was smooth as silk. Dropped to 89, and still smooth, with none of the hesitation I got before.

I used 91 for early on when the car was new and I had the airaid v1 intake. With that intake 91 helped with throttle response and what not but since all the mods and miles on the car since last sept its been on 87 and I dont see how I would notice an improvement now, the car runs smooth and strong. Some day I'll try 91 again and see.

Unless you only have 2 octanes available this makes no sense at all. Essentially what your trying to do is mix something like 87 and 93 to make what 90? Doesn't really work that way. You could always just fill up on 89 and call it a day IMO.

I run 87..tried 97 but saw no difference, but I only have 1700mi on it.

True for most normal cars and engines, but NOT true for the 3.6 L in our Camaros. Has been proven by a few while on the dyno that using higher octane stops the engine from pulling down the timing which in turns means more HP.

Glad to see we have another thread on this great debate of 87 vs. 93.

If i was going to the track i might put premium in but for everyday driving even if it did give a little more power it simply isnt worth it at the prices gas is at.

A properly maintained modern engine should not "need" 89 octane until it has about 150,000 miles on it. And even then, a good long road trip can help clear the crud out of the piston heads and you may be able to return to 87 octane for in-town driving.

I've been using premium 93 for a while and it does make a noticable difference with the V6. However, with gas prices at this rate....regular 85 is looming in my future. This car has computer adjustments that corrects for timing, air, exhaust, gas....its very high tech. Though my v6 loves premium and responds accordingly it will have to do with regular until prices come down. I'm not building a race car...I want a show car!!! I have to be able to afford it. There is no real reason for high gas prices except, for greed.....Oil company's greed be DAMNED...your greed will be your end! Your higher prices will eventually cause people to drive less and therfore use less. Higher profit margins will not offset the decline in use and you will LOOSE! Other prices (food, water, building materials) will rise due to high delivery rates and we will have even less money to spend on gas. Its a MAD, MAD WORLD!!!

I tested a few tanks of regular vs premium on gas mileage, and notice a substantial difference (about 30-40mi per tank) between the two. Since then been putting premium in. Purely personal observation and I dont care what research is out there on this subject. If it's not broken, I'm not gonna try to fix it.

The manual say 87 or higher.
Its been proven 87 pull timing, if you want everything that your LLT has to offer than go 93 or equivalent. It defenitely feel better and pull better with 93.
That is all I use unless someone can prove 87 does not pull timing on our 3.6 LLT.
