Build help? Looking for an RX7 beater

Any help would be appreciated, especially from experienced tuners or Xanthos, Camarospike. My buddy has an RX7 with an LS5 conversion (who knows why) and he said it's pushing 407 hp. Not sure if that number is wheel or crank. Question is, will headers, exhaust, intake and tune be enough to offset the weight difference or is there something else I should consider, short of a supercharger, that would even it up a bit? I'd like to shed the backseat and any other weight as well.
Thanks for any help guys. I have a little over a year to build so if anyone knows of parts coming down the line those will be considered also.

What year and weight is the RX 7? Are you looking for drag speed or road course performance?

Remember there will always be someone with a faster car. I say do those mods to your car if it makes you happy, but you can get carried away trying to keep up with a radically modified car and end up making your car less fun to use or less reliable. I would start with the mods mentioned (exhaust, CAI, tune), and if you need more look into a set of ported heads, a bigger cam and an intake to go with it. I think with all those mods you would be looking at 500-550 hp (at the crank) depending on parts choice, and low 12's maybe high 11's. Good luck.

My bad, it's an ls6 from a Z06. The car is a 95 so figure 2800 for the car, minus a rotary but plus around 500 lbs for that motor and tranny: around 3100 lbs. I'm not technically building my car JUST to drag race this one guy, I just wanted to know that with the mods I had in mind that it wouldn't be murder for me. This won't be my daily driver since im keeping my old beater truck but I would like to keep it civil. Thanks for the ideas fellas.

That's not an Rx7. That's some kind of frankenstein.

Once you take the rotary engine out the car dies. Anything else is not true.

Some things just are not meant to be.

Besides more HP is not "beating". The car is so much more than power.

Have him get grilled by an F350 and see who is "beating" who. (Camaro so much better it's not even in the same class).

And I know a lot about Rx7's. I have been to junkyards and seen a lot of crashed ones. Blood all over the place and door handles all the way near the center console.

(I have owned 3...)

My point is stop worring about hp and speed... it does not make a whole car.

Actually it only adds 30-50 lbs for the swap only. A LS motor actually weights about the same as the rotary motor with the heavy as twin turbos. So you are not messing up the weight distribution nor weighing the car down. I was big into the v8rx7 scene and know alot of crap about them. They are monsters that run easily into the 11s (with a stock drop in) and average around 30 mpg.

Fast intake, cam, full exhaust, CAI and top it off with a Maggie or twin turbo. Easily over 600 rwhp and you should stomp the lowly ex-Rx. That is if you can drive it. Adding that much power changes everything. It isn't something for the faint hearted. Be careful.

I think you mean the LS9.

It depends where you want to beat him. If it is at the drag strip I would imagine a car like his is going to rip out of the hole pretty strong, and you would need a good amount of power to run him down over the 1/4. If it is a rolling start on the street it won't be as big a deal.

Do you want to stay NA or do you mind going the forced induction route? An SS with a basic TVS blower package should destroy the RX-7 no doubt. If you went the NA route and added a CAI, LT headers, medium cam and heads, you should see well over 500 hp and that should be enough to beat the Mazda.
