New to site. I would like some advice on my 69. I have been slowly finishing this project on a very tight budget. I am hoping to install the carpet this summer. But before I do. Should I put down a coat of "pour 15, Lizard skin or some other product"? and what sound deadener would be the best to purchase? Thanks.

when I did my 74 Firebird budget resto, I stripped down to metal, sprayed the rust areas with rustoleum rust converter, brushed the whole floor with a rubbery type paint, ran the speaker wires, put down the jigsaw puzzle of sound deadening rubber (instead of the correct factory OEM asphalt sheets- too messy), then the carpeting. Got the rubber from either AMES or CLASSIC. Also put generic dynomat behind rear seat and package shelf, and a thin foil heat shield on top of both muffler areas. sorry about the huge photos, I uploaded them the same way as always

The reproduction of the factory setup is the cheapest option. I have no idea why people go to such great lengths to clean up the areas buried under the carpet. Bust your arzz scraping off every speck of old glue that is stuck on and hard to remove???? WHY???? NOBODY will ever see it again and it will not make the car last longer or perform better. Dynamat is a nice improvement for sound and thermal benefits but it is also expensive. Budget will decide for you.
Fix any rusty areas and put some kind of soundproofing down before adding new carpet. -Mark. |
