What tire pressure should I run?
I am doing the rolling half mile this weekend at the airport. Roll about an 1/8th of a mile to 50 MPH, then punch it out for 1/2 mile. I have my tires at 32.5 for the run, what do you think about that pressure? They are the stock GY's. I normally run them at 30 for every day driving. Heck, the side of the tire says 51 MAX. I am thinking traction will not be an issue in a straight line and a rolling start at 50MPH, so I wanted to keep the tires hard for less friction, more top speed. Thoughts?

If I was going to do that race I think id have them all at 30lbs cold. With the heat they would go to probably 32 lbs on their own. Can you stomp the pedal without spinning at that tire pressure on the goodyears?

I posted this before - Straight off the Michelin web site for the Pilot Super Sport.
For high-speed driving, additional inflation pressure and possibly reduced tire loading and/or upsizing is required. In the absence of specific recommendations by the vehicle manufacturer, use the following guidelines based on those in the European Tyre and Rim Technical Organization Standards Manual. For speeds over 160km/h (100 mph), load and inflation must be adjusted according to the table below. (Y)-Speed Rated Sizes: Maximum Speed (mph) 118 124 130 136 143 149 155 161 168 174 180 186 Inflation Increase (psi) 0 0 0 0 1.5 3 4.5 6 7.5 7.5 7.5 7.5 Load Capacity (% of max) 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 95 90 85

Hmmmm....
Wouldn't you want to run as high a pressure (and I don't mean the 51 psi on the side of the tire) as you can to minimize rolling resistance while still having proper contact patch when you punch it from 50? 32 cold gets me to 37 fully warmed up, so I'm thinking at least 37 unless you've got a way to get the tires up to temp real quick? |
