Confession: Why a Z/28?

To be honest, while the track performance of Z/28 is excellent, it is not the #1 reason I wanted a Z/28.

I've wanted an original 427ci Camaro w/manual since I was a kid. Never could afford one. When the rumors started >2 years ago about GM putting a 427 in the Camaro, I started hunting.

In the real world, only about 1000 427 Camaros were made. Many were never "numbers matching" since the engine was installed at the dealer after they removed the 396 it came with. So there are literally thousands out there that claim to be original 427's.

They cost twice as much as a base Camaro back then. So the $75k price today is not really out of line.

True. I was there and I still want one now. Of all the camaros produced this has the most potential IMO of gaining in value!

Bc it's a muscle car thst by any measure shouldn't offer the brutal performance it does. Some argue it's an overweight z06. Some see it as a sleeper. I see it as the latter. Never having been a vette guy but always a fan of muscle cars it appeals on an emotional level. Let's face it. Gtr vette 911 z ... None make any sense. Car purchases In The ultra perf category are emotional.

54. I was a kid back then. But they were legendary when I started racing at 16.

I think the new Z/28 straddles two worlds at once. It's both a dinosaur (427 V8 + manual gearbox + fairly large and heavy) and cutting edge (DSSV + CC Brakes + Aero). Just the kind of thing I love!

if i would have the $$$,

i would buy it only for; beeing exclusive ,one of the few,low production #, 427 is all there is to say. special suspension that no ones has, special tires, powerful ceramic brake, recaro seats.a basic camaro with no useless gadjets. mean looking, one off diffuser, one off grille. no radio. listen to that exhaust, gives you goose bumps.. i would give it champagne for fuel ..washing it and waxing it would be.... erotic..i'm in love..
too bad ain't got the dough for it... but i can still dream about it.

This is true. And no rev matching feature!

Enough new tech to make the dinosaur do the jig.

This is why a Z/28:

What Bullitt did for the Mustang, this video (without the Steve McQueen cool factor) does for the modern Z/28. Anyone that watches this video is put on notice: "Want some of this? Here it is. Come and get it."

The reasoning is fairly sound minus the fact that the 427's you revered were
"big blocks" and that a big block 427 would give you gobs more torque than the small block version. Plus the "old school" big block has much thicker walls and head room for build up. Other than that, it does provide a link to the "number" 427 if that is what provokes the emotion you seek! It is workable, but in a slightly different context (in that it is still a variant of the small block).

Now, I am not judging the engines by any means. Choice for me would also be the small block version (FYI). As it comes with all the hardcore internals and design!

Because I wasn't around back in 1969...... Missed it by 5 years.

I'm sure these ones will garner some great attention in another 20 or 30 years just like the first ones did.

I've had an original '69 Z/28 for 41 yrs. I know what a small cube small block can do. I know what it is like without creature comforts, no a/c, no power steering, no auto, no mufflers (chambered exhaust). I don't know how I could drive it 4 hours to college without going deaf at 3700 rpm and 55 mph. Nowdays short jaunts are all I'm good for, but fun nonetheless. I'm looking forward to seeing what a big cube small block will do and I'm sure I won't be disappointed. The rest of the setup of the car is phenomenal as well. I will be upgrading the driver at a local track as soon as I have her broke in. Fortunately the timing is perfect as I can now afford one! 2015 allotment here, patiently waiting for the day the dealer can place the order.

+1

saw the video, wanted the car. The detail behind the car is great, but the emotion created by the video did it for me.
