I'd drive the Chevy McLovin' if they want to name it that.

Seriously though, I'm sure the GM folks have enjoyed reading this thread and getting everyone's take on the name so they make sure they make the right marketing move.

Well done folks.

With no mention of anything but Z28 thus far regarding this vehicle, I find it hard to believe they'll name it something else.

More interestingly, why does everyone focus on the 1st gens when it comes to the Z28 nameplate? The name has been dragged through the mud in the late 70's and early 80's. It's not untarnished. They started moving in the right direction again with the 4th gens, but I don't see it as a hallowed nameplate. It was just a popular RPO code in the first place.

That being said, I think this is just a test to see how much value the consumer places in a name and I'd be surprised to see them not use Z28 when looking at results in this poll and likely others around the web.

False to 2). I called my dealer Friday morning and told him I wanted to be first in line for this IF it is called a Z28 and let me know when to come put a deposit down if I need to. But, if its not a Z28, pull me off the list. If they announce it's a Z28, I'll have the check written before the announcement is over.

NOT calling it a Z28 would be the biggest blunder GM could possibly make in the wake of rebuilding their company and brand(s)!

Camaro fans have not been calling for a "HP" Camaro for the last 2 years -- they've been demanding a Z28. A surefire way for GM to alienate their customers and prove they're back at "business-as-usual" ignoring their customers, would be to ignore 2+ years of consumer demand and go with a "HP" designation that means nothing--absolutely nothing--to the current target audience Camaro fan.

IMHO, to the naysayers that are still holding onto the "SS was supposed to be more powerful than a Z28" argument: let it go. This isn't 40 years ago, or even 10 years ago. It's not "your fathers' Camaro" anymore; and if you're the actual father in that analogy, time to give up a useless fight and get behind the company bringing you Camaros in the first place

should the poll question read "would you still buy it if it was named the HP edition instead of the Z28"?

... instead of "would you buy it if it is named Z28"?

confused

Nope. The wording of the poll was intended to pit the 'Z28' name against all others...'HP Edition' doesn't have nearly the rumor-power behind it that Z28 does. But it raised the question.

I've noticed a decent number of people over the past year or so make a case for the ZL1 name or even something like SS S/C...because the first-gens definition of the name doesn't match what enthusiasts are expecting in a 'Z28'.

So I worded the poll to see if those people feel strongly enough about it to really abstain from buying an "incorrectly named" Z28.

I'm sorry if that confused some folks.

Interesting thoughts for sure DG3....maybe it will be kept just an SS with an HP option, just as we have the convertible option, XM, synergy etc...possibly just a S/C 585 HP badge or something to point out what it's packing underneath placed on the car somewhere similar to it's SLP brother? Isn't speculating fun? Well, it helps pass the time.

So you are not interested in the car itself, but only the name.

Out of curiosity, what is your reasoning?

So you have 60K for a high performance Camaro but only if it has a certain name?

Agreed.....I wont know until the price is announced if I can afford one or not. If its closer to 60k then no I cant , but if its 45k or so then I have a big decision to make. I can say this for sure , I will not spend 45k on a Camaro and it not be a Z/28. That is my own personal thoughts on this and I am sure some would agree with me and some will think I am crazy.

I understand where your coming from. You've been wanting a Z28, not some new edition car. Why put out that much money on something you dont really want... I would have to agree with you. We have an ls, ss, and now want the Z28.

Somewhat. I'm big on history and nostalgia. I'm sure the car will be amazing no matter what it is, but if its the "HP Edition," it just doesn't have that longevity for me. I don't plan on selling any of the 4 Camaros I have now, and I wouldn't plan on selling this one if it was a Z28. Too me, HP Edition doesn't mean anything. Its just a SS with bolt ons. I know some of you think that's crazy, but its how I think about it.
