Is This Combo Possible?
Simple question, can you mate a a modern day engine, like a second generation LT1 small block V8, with an older transmission, like a Muncie M20? Why or why not?

The LT1 has the same bell housing pattern as the original 327/ 350/ 396/427 do you see where I'm going? It needs no adapters. It would need the LT1 flywheel I do believe. The LS series small blocks need a special bellhousing and motor mounts.

There were two distinctly different versions of the LT1. The first LT1's came out in 1970 and were a stout 350 that had a solid-lifter cam and had a distributor put behind the carb. The next LT1 came out in 1993 and again it was a 350 and was a fuel-injected version of the small block with a reverse flowing coolant system and the distributor was an opti-spark setup that sat behind the waterpump and had issues until the vented versions came out. Both were stout and put out nice power/torque. Blocks were externally the same, so I'm saying you don't need special adapters.

as far as the different LT1s... yes and no. if you want to get nit-picky the engine that came out in the 70s was an "LT-1" while the one that came out in '92 was an "LT1" (without the hyphen)
