Thats the thread OP. Thanks for posting it cdb95z28. There's enough bs there to give you a headache, but skim over the bs and concentrate on the facts and check out the awesome ideas in the pics. Like I said, I went simple, 90 elbow, couple of oem clips, heat shrink, came out smooth and clean. My custom pulley should be in this week too, will get rid of that factory ribbed looking one and should be ready for the season as soon as this weather turns.

Love my Z/28 intake. Easy install, plus I like having all OEM stuff. Just my preference. Got a chance to drive for a while today - 70 degrees and nice. Seat of the pants dyno and the ears say, it's a 10.

I put down 407 RWHP on a Mustang Dyno with my Z/28 CAI/CORSA 3" cat back...stock tune. I was happy...

interesting....

I also have a Z28 intake. I did notice that it doesn't make that sound when sucking air. I installed a k&n intake on my previous V6 and it was a huge difference. I have to actually pay close attention to hear that sucking sound. Is this normal?

I have had and SLP, Rotofab and now Z/28 Intake.

The Rotofab was by far the worst when it came to fit and finish.
  • MAF housing tool molds the housing in two pieces, the part lines were offset and require someone at ROTOFAB to trim the line by hand....Looks bad and could be fixed with a new tool or refurbish of current tool
  • The metal heat shield doesn't fit correctly in the 2013+ SS( I cant speak for 2010-2012 SS cars) You have to manipulate, bend two of the lines from he radiator so they do not rub on the shield.
  • There (was, not sure if it changed) is no provision to run the 2013+ ground strap to the post on the fender.
  • Filter sits very close to the washer fluid fill bottle. Even with time spend adjusting it is very close and can rub.
Yes, I am very critical of aftermarket parts. Fit and Finish are just as important as performance. I spend years in the aftermarket industry and had the opportunity to test parts for dozens and dozens of aftermarket parts, (Cams, Intakes, Susp, etc.)...... Some are good, some not so good.

The OEM Z/28 intake installs in minutes and provides improvements over the stock airbox.

One thing to keep in mind is the fact that the M.A.F. housing on our CAI was calibrated to the stock tune on the LS3. The Z28 intake on the other hand is calibrated to the Ls7 which is 50cc larger. I have not personally seen any data from the Z28 intake on a stock Ls3, but I would assume it would start to lean out at higher RPMs. Maybe others can chime in on this if they have seen the dyno results.

Basically, all this test is showing is the potential of our C.A.I. vs the Z28 when it comes to efficiency and potential gains. We tend to see average gains of 13-16hp without tuning on the stock Ls3 with our intake system. The gains showed on the Z28 vs Roto-Fab C.A.I. test show that our intake is less restrictive and capable of flowing more cfm than the Z28 intake on a modded car where the demand is even higher.

Thanks,
Jeremiah
