Question POLL: ZL1 Shifter Stock vs Aftermarket

Well since we know we are getting a new shifter for ZL1, its not growing on me. Too long of a handle. I would much prefer a shorter handle or a shorter throw shifter even. There are some neat after market ones out there.
I like the look of the new factory hurst shifter. But we do not even know if the factory hurst will be an option at this point.
So, how many of you if and when you get your ZL1 will be looking at changing out the shifter to either a hurst factory or After market shifter, and pros and conns of each?

Too early to tell, but I agree that the stock shifter looks WAY TOO TALL in the pics. I'm curious as to if it's just an optical illusion or not.

Hell, it looks taller than my stock (non Hurst) shifter .

I'll be getting an MGW shifter with the retro black ball. I've heard nothing but great thing about them. I'll just have to wait until they release a shifter ball with the ZL1 logo. As soon as they do, I'm on that like flies on you know what.

Here's an install thread from an SS owner that has some nice pics.

Shurenuff, I am with you. Subscribed to that thread too.
Im gonna say im gonna go with either the MGW or hurst option.
But like you say if they come out with the ZL1 logo for the ball, It might be all it takes for me. That MGW is a good looking shifter indeed.

Here's another good thread with opinions on the stock SS shifter versus the aftermarket Hurst and MGW. Pretty good reading.

Never used one but when I was talking to a Lingenfelter sales rep he suggested that they have had good results with a MTI short throw.

I will be removing my MGW from the SS and reinstalling in the ZL1. The ZL1 will most likely have the hurst already available on the SS. I don't see GM puting a different one in it with existing inventory. But I will wait to see how it feels. The MGW is a whole lot better than just a shaft change.

How does the MGW compare to the factory hurst?
Just curious. Is it a "softer" feel?

Lets not forget this is a pre-production car... what we see may not be the same at the start of production!

I had a lot of missed second to third shifts with the stock shifter, now I haven't missed one yet. The shifter has a very strong centering spring so it likes to go to center easier unlike the Hurst which felt real sloppy in neutral and I have tried new ones in new off the lot Camaro. One of the reasons I went with the MGW was the craftmanship and also it replaces the whole shifter not just the shaft. This thing is like a piece of art when I saw it in person, I am really impressed. It did take some getting used to at first, but it did not take long, just the drive home from ARD across town. I recommend this to anyone that is considering a short throw for their Camaro. But to answer your question the Hurst to me feels the same as stock just a little shorter throws because it is just a shaft swapout. That was the thing with me I wanted to feel the difference for myself. Our club,s ( H-town Camaro club) president is a sales manager for a dealership here in the Houston area and always brings a Camaro out to a lot of the meets we go to so I got to try a brand new from factory Hurst installed shifter.
