Purchase with the VIN before arrival?

Is it possible that once the VIN is produced, the dealer can process the sale without the car? I recieved a promotion in the mail today about the GM Card top-off. It'd be an extra $1000 off for me but it's only good until 1st February. My dealer said the earliest my car would be in would be the last week of January, but with it still being in 1100 I'm thinking I won't be getting it until the first through third week of February.

Dealer's are not suppose to mark the vehicle as sold until the vehicle is physically on their lot. What happens if the Transport is in a wreck and Car is totaled? Technically it would be your car since you already signed paperwork for it, so you would be responsible for fixing it.

If your car has a VIN, it has already been produced and you will most likely receive it before 02/01/10.

No, it doesn't have a VIN yet. I'm being optimistic in thinking the VIN will be produced by 2/1.

Yes your dealer can start the paperwork and sell you the car once a vin is produced. I am in a similiar situation and the dealer can apply the incentives once a "real" car is produced i.e. VIN. As far as the car getting damaged during shipping? Chevy does have the 60 day money back guarantee which by the way talk to your dealer you may be able to get an additional $500 reduction by waiving that once you take delivery! Hope this helped.

60 day money back ended 1/4/2010.

Not an option any more and no $500 rebate for waiving it.

I just hope they decide to run it again in the next few weeks but my luck is never that good.

Dealers are not suppose to sell the unit till it is in their lot. Do some dealers? Yes, are they suppose to? No. We won't have any paperwork signed and done till vehicle is on our lot. And as far as your logic for the 60 day guarantee, if it was still in effect, you can't have more than $200 or so damage on it, if so it wouldn't be accepted. Logic is flawed.

Maybe flawed but thats what I got! Also this isn't just one dealer. There are seven in the local area that offer to start your paperwork once there is a VIN so you can get any of the incentives that are about to expire. All different ownerships too. I do agree however that unless you need to do this i.e huge incentives, etc. the buyer should wait until the car is on the lot for the same exact reasons you mentioned in earlier posts.

Yeah I spoke with my dealer he stated (in writing!) no matter if it existed or not the dealership will offer to me! This kind of customer service is why I have bought 6 vehicles from them!

Good luck!

Yeah, I wouldn't think of doing it just to save 500, but my GM card's got the top off thing at $2000. Now I'm hoping I get a VIN soon, so I can lock that in and spend the 2k on a car alarm and tint.
