Yeah the driver has a lot to do with it also... I beat my son's time with his own car, it was a 5 speed manual and at that time I had not driven a manual for about10 years...he wasn't happy about that....
Yes! The driver makes or breaks the car, so to speak.

I have updated the OP to reflect BlackoutLFX's discovery that Sport Mode and TapShift can be enabled on the 2LS.

Sorry for the delay, this information has been available for 2 months now, and is potentially a game-changer for 2LS owners.

"Really, they make the car just a little slower so they can advertise 30 mpg! I'll have you know the ONLY time my 2LS has ever made above 21 mpg is when I was going 50 on the freeway with everyone else passing me! Usually it's only 19 mpg.

Really, if all you can get is 21 cruising at 50 then something is definitely wrong...

Actually that was an exaggeration. My fault. Lol. But really it's usually 18-19 mpg

I avg. 24-25mpg. and I have a fairly heavy foot. If you're only getting 19 I would get it checked. I will admit though I saw it go up when I installed my CAI/Ported TB.

I managed to get 26.1 mpg on a 220 mile freeway trip this week, with the cruise control set at 78 mph.

Would've been higher at a lower speed, I'm sure, but I was pretty happy with that. Especially coming out of winter. Winter blend gas plus cold, dense air equals crappy mileage.

It's likely more than just a selling point, especially since most dealers don't even seem to know there's any difference between models.

CAFE numbers are more likely to be the reason, IMO.

Just completed my 1434 mile circuit to see my parents in another state. Really happy with my MPG. 28 on freeway until I hit a pass, of course it dropped to a respectable 25 mpg. On another 100 mile stretch( must have been down hill) I got it to 33 mpg. And if no black and whites around, I try to drive a safe 10 over posted limit. Of course, if traffic is congested OR weather does not permit, then I Always drive a safe speed.
