Going to the track today need advice
From the reading I have done on here it seems that the best method for lowering 1/4 times is in Sport mode. I had been pressing the TC button for 10 sec until the TC and Stability were both off. Then I would heat the tires and take off in D. My best has been a 13.27 on street tires and 13.23 on DR's.
If you switch to Manual mode and don't tap shift at redline will it shift automatically or only in Sport mode? Should I brake stall a bit? Should I leave Stability on and only turn off TC?

D = Regular drive (computer shifts the car)
M = Sport Mode (computer shifts the car) M (Sport Mode) becomes (Manual Mode) as soon as you touch the paddle shifters. In manual mode you have to shift the car yourself. Holding the TC button down for 7+ seconds turns off the traction control and stability track. This can be used with all the different modes. Most guys seem to be using M (Sport Mode) with the TC turned off at the track. |

So Sport Mode with only TC off not TC and Stability is the best? How high can we rev with the stock springs especially with the auto's AFM?

No (in manual mode) it will not up shift for you. You will bounce off the rev limiter and the fuel will shut off ( 6100 rpms). It will feel like you took your foot off the gas pedal when you hit the rev limiter. Playing around I've bounced off the rev limiter on the 1-2 shift a few times. That 1-2 shift comes on real fast and you have to be ready for it. I've found its better to shift a little early on the 1-2 shift to make sure I don't hit the rev limter. And I only use the tap shifts when I'm playing around. At the track I'll let the computer do the shifting. The other time I like to use the tap shifts is when I roll off the line (like a red light) and I want the tranmission to stay in 1st gear. Then whenever I'm ready (say 20mph or so) I'll mash the gas and take off. It works really well from a low speed roll. Then I quickly make the 1-2 shift. But you have to be paying very close attention to the speedo or tach so you don't hit the rev limiter. |

Thanks, I will give Sport Mode w/TC off a shot.
The DR's are on and ready to go.

I went to a private track day and they had a bracket race for money. I won $2400 my first time really bracket racing. I will post slips and more info when I get back from breakfast. My best run was a 12.953 at 179.32.

I sure hope the 179.32 is just a typo!

Just a little info on TM and the auto trans in the camaros: if the torque management is anything like the C6 corvettes, in a stock (untuned) auto trans , TM will kill your time if you hook up hard. The better you hook, the more invasive the TM will be and reduce power. Best to roll into the throttle , and the best results from an auto C6 was with TC off, AH on , roll into throttle to WOT about 10 ft past the tree. The vette guys with stock cars have been fighting TM since the beginning of the C6, and a few have figured this way around it.

What kind of pointers? About bracket racing or launching? Either way that is what my post was about as I was asking for help myself. So All I can say is that the TC off(not both TC ans Sty) and in M(Sports Mode) gave me the best times. Taking off in D resulted in 1-2 tenths slower. I took off from idle because I was not trying to be faster but consistent as I was bracket racing. Otherwise I would have tried launching with some brake stall.
As for advice on bracket racing it was my first time so all I can say is get a car that is consistent.
