Traded in an Automatic 2LT for a manual 2SS

Without really planning to, I traded in my black 2013 Automatic 2LT for a "grown-up" white 2014 Manual 2SS.

Now the kicker:

I never drove stick before. What should I be mindful of?

You now have three pedals. Right is still gas, but middle is brake and left is clutch.

Congrats!
I hope you got a good deal, find 'em don't grind 'em and beware the power!
It is ADDICTING!
Seriously, just find some empty roads or parking lot to practice in, if you got it off the dealers lot you will be fine.

Thanks, I think I just have a parking lot in mind!

... also, nope, I did not get it off the dealer's lot. I asked him to keep it there for a day or two until I get a crash course (no pun) on a beater car.

Nice! You'll NEVER want to go back to an automatic anymore. Go on YouTube and watch some stick driving lessons videos.

1) Some people say you "balance" the gas and clutch. That's a poor way to put it. If that were true, you'd have the gas floored whenever the clutch was out, and the gas half down while the clutch was half in. Hooey, pure-d nonsense. There's a 'catch point' to the clutch. It doesn't have to "be in the middle" of anything

2) get a person you know that drives manual well to teach you

Be sure and push in the clutch when coming to a stop, or your kill then engine.

You will love it as soon as you get used to the manual. Which will not take long.

Remember to downshift when passing or needing significant acceleration.

No one that can help you? It's not rocket science. But you might want to find an open parking lot like a school or church, when empty, or a nice long straight road with no traffic.

You can ease out the clutch in that car with zero gas, and I mean ease, and get a feel for where it's going to want to kick in.

Biggest thing is this, your panic button is hitting that clutch to the floor. Any time at all you thing you might have a problem get in the habit of pushing the clutch in, as well as the brake, but you need that clutch in so you kill your power of course.

As someone above mentioned, just practice finding the catch point and don't let the clutch out too quickly "at the top".

Will only take a day and you will be just fine. I started in driveway finding that release point, then ventured out into the neighborhood and finally around town. Easy peasy.

And CONGRATS!

Getting the car moving from a stand still is the hardest part. Everything else is super easy. You aren't going to be good at it right away, so just be patient.
