TPMS Question - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

Do I need to use TPMS sensors with my aftermarket wheels? Will the car allow it, or will I set off all sorts of warning lights? I've always had good luck checking the pressure myself and I don't want to pay additional money for something I can do without.

To clarify: I have a 2LT/RS. I will be switching the stock 20" wheels and summer treads for 18" wheels and winter treads during the winter. Do I need to buy 4 sensors for my winter setup, or can I do without? (Tirerack said sensors would be an additional $300)

Any insight will be appreciated. Thanks.

I just put my winters on..have the same the same car as you. I was told you can put on different rims without tpms sensors..you'll just have a light on on your dash. I didn't order any with mine..and no light has come on..I'm wondering if they "accidentally" installed them with the rims. I reset the sensor..and the car gives me new readings..so I think they might have accidentally given me some...

I remember reading another post somewhere on here of someone who put on his winter tires without the TPMS. The person kind of indicated he did something so it wouldn't give him the warning message.
