After installed headers, do you need a dyno tune, or can you tune it with a handhold tuner, like a predator?

i have headers and had the diablo it did not tune out the cats...i just had a cam install so the custom tune tuned out the rear o2 sensors so that it wouldnt throw a code

If your LT's come with Cats then you might not "need" the tune.

If not, then yes. The CEL will stay on without a custom/dyno tune to eliminate the rear O2s.

Either way, you will not see the full potential of the LT's without a tune of any sort.

You can pick up a handful of HP/TQ with a custom tune.

SES light will most likely come on without a tune, even if you're installing cats, so for that reason, you'll want a tune of some sort to disable certain codes. ...however, the stock tune isn't the best tune for a stock motor, so it stands to reason that it is even less optimum for the stock motor plus bolt ons.

Bottom line - you'll always get the most out of each mod if you include a tune. Obviouslly, this isn't practical for most, so do a round of mods, and when you get to a stopping point, have a good shop give you a tune to take the most advantage of what you've already done!

...after posting, though, I realized I left out that there are some mods you just tune with even if you have plans for more even in the short term, as the car won't run right. Larger fuel injectors come to mind.
