Well stated superfly03. I'm happy you chimed in to help a fellow camaro owner.

A quad core is definitely what he needs. And Thanks for the update on his motherboard, I over-looked that it was an AMD. LOL

Happy to help regardless of what car he owns. I obviously don't hold it against him (I drive a Shelby now)

Yeah, details will get ya on the mobo.

Ah, fair enough. Just thought i'd point out how dangerous it is replacing CPU's if you haven't done it or aren't sure what you are doing because I've had people come back with a "*(@#%(*&$@ you didn't tell me I could break it so easily" thread before.

Problem is, no matter what you got, its always to slow for what your doing.

But at one time, your machine was the fastest for just that.

Find out what they did 10 years ago to use machines like your to photo edit.

Once again thanks for all the help . . .

So the AMD chip on newegg. . . this will help out A LOT I assume. . . but is it worth it? If it was just as fast as my laptop then I'll be fine.

You'll probably be slightly faster than your laptop... not by a huge margin though. 10-15%

My buddy told me we could overclock the CPU if it isn't fast enough. . . what do you guys think about this and is it hard to do?

The down and dirty: I wish i had seen this earlier.... Your computer is 4 years old and worth about 50 bucks (if you are lucky enough to find someone to buy it). You could buy a new PC with a Dual core/Quad for cheap. Your issue is not just the Processor.. it is the whole package.

Video and photo processing are CPU hogs. It is not about the video card or RAM for this...

My suggestion is you set a price range, and get a new PC.

Overclocking: Problems you may/will run into.
Over heating.. requiring large fans or liquid cooling... Premade computers rarely have room in the case for large fans.
Power.... Your PSU (Power Supply) is 4 years old and is rated for your set up you bought... over clicking will require a more powerful PSU, and may kill the one you have.

Think about your decision:
New processor $70
Windows 7 upgrade $130
You are $200 into a computer that has bottle necks and a 4 year old PSU and Motherboard.

Look what you get for $550

  • Processor
    Intel® Core™2 Quad
  • Processor Speed
    2.5GHz
  • System Bus

    8GB
  • Type of Memory (RAM)
    DDR3 SDRAM

WARRANTY!

Now if you have a friend that builds computers you can beat the hell out of that PC by ordering the parts through New Egg and having him build it for you...

For what it is worth... I build my own, I have built 3: I know you probably do not want to invest what I have but you get a hell of a lot more bang for your buck when you build it.

yeah, but it only cost me 60 bucks. . . a lot cheaper than a new computer right now. . Keep in mind my work is seasonal. . . I don't have any income from December - April.
