What to pay for LS1
There is an LS1 long block for sale...
Heads, block, valve covers, and everything to create a long block its only 400 dollars. 241 cast heads, good block, good crank, good clean and marked pistons and rods Is it worth the 400? |

Not bad, but if you don't already have a LS1 I would look for something else. You'll need a lot more to do a swap. I would check a salvage yard and see what you can get a complete unit or front clip for. You'll need all the wiring and the ECU.

This will be a project over an extended period of time, so I need to consider whether to save and buy everything at once, or start piece by piece. |

Any idea how many miles are on it? Remember that you can't bore them out very far, most people only take them out to 3.905 (comming aftermarket piston size), although I've heard of a few taking them out to 3.910, but not sure of those are off the shelf pistons or something customg and expensive.
Do you know what year it is? The later blocks, 00+ have oil passage design, and improved oil flow. 01+ have bulkhead vent windows, and better windage. That said, if the bore liners look like they're in good shape, I'd probably pay $400 for it, just know what you're getting before you buy. |
