Hellcat thoughts

Yea yea I know this is a camaro forum but wanted to get thoughts on what alot of dealerships try to do to people... I went on dodge dot Com and built a 2016 hellcat just for giggles and it came out to just under $70,000.... local dealer has one for $84,000 almost same exact car as one I built and that one is manual transmission, I built auto.... some people I tell ya.... before I chose camaro I was seriously looking at scat pack at this dealer, so glad I didn't go there!!!! Isn't this supposed to be against the law?

Simple economics, supply vs. demand. They add the "market value" price on top of the car. Go find a different dealer of you don't like that one bumping the price up. But before you get a Hellcat, know that they don't have near enough rubber under them. That's why there's a bunch of YouTube videos of 5th Gen ZL1's smoking them in drag races. If I was going to buy a challenger, I'd probably buy the scat pack. R/T price with SRT performance, you can't lose.

Hey

I was never seriously considering the hellcat for that exact reason and insurance rape,lol... I thought bout rt scat pack with 485hp, cheaper trim had 245's on, poor man's srt392, I guess... so glad I got my camaro... I did drive the scat pack, roomy as hell love the interior but ehh on other aspects.... never really been a dodge Chrysler guy anyway....

No...unfortunately.

The "S" in MSRP is "suggested"...meaning a dealer can charge more if they want, they're taking the gamble that someone will be so desperate for the car that they'll either pay that without question or they can "negotiate down" to "give a great deal" at MSRP...while still making thousands of dollars on the sale.

The issue with the Hellcat is not that it's officially limited production, IE a hard production cap, but that FCA has had difficulty getting some components. The parts were mostly those they themselves don't make in house or such, for the drivetrain. For a while they had trouble getting the 8HP transmission in sufficient numbers, then it was the blowers (they're a unique design to the Hellcat, I think)..so some dealers take advantage of the supply limited production.

In general Challengers tend to be more prone to ADM across the board, or at minimum dealers unwilling to negotiate to below MSRP prices. The Scat Pack was a huge hit because of the bargain it represented (old SRT performance+R/T insurance since it's not officially a SRT) and some dealers tried to pull the "it's a limited edition" thing with them too.

I fully expect the new ZL1 (or Z/28 or whatever) to be the most likely of the current 6th Gen's to get an ADM slapped on it.

I really don't understand why people think dealer mark ups are "against the law" They can ask whatever they want. Is it against the law for consumers to pay less than dealer cost??? No! As long as the dealer's price is clearly advertised then no law is being broken. They could Ask $100 k and be ok.

Think of it as supply and demand. A 1970 hemi challenger cost $4500 in 1970 now it worth $150k. Supply and demand. Low supply high demand. Have you bought a house? There is no msrp just whatever the seller wants to list it at.

I'd offer them msrp if I wanted the car and see what happens. Where else can u get 700 hp from the factory for$84k? Let alone $70k

I just drove one last week, not a fan. Pretty fast, but it just felt like I was driving a 1970's Lincoln Town Car or something. You really feel it's weight and size...

The SP Shakers just ooze nostalgia and that awesome late 60's vibe...

Dodge simply has their game together when it comes to appealing to the classic vibe/nostalgia factor...

You're right, but then I have never drove a Camaro before so I couldn't compare it to anything the new 2016 might be my first one...

I drove an R/T Charger just to get a feel for the size. Felt the exact same way. The 5.7L definitely felt stronger than my 328i and it was good to feel/hear a V8...but I could not shake the heft and size of it. When I got back in my 328i, it made me realize just how agile it is compared to the Charger. If the Camaro feels as good as everyone describes, I just don't think I could seriously consider a SP Charger anymore, even though I love the look, performance, and space.

Also on the SP forums, there are guys who have seen Hellcats with prices reduced and getting on at or slightly over MSRP is now becoming common in some areas. Be sure to shop around if anyone is really interested. And don't buy any BS that SP cars are limited, they are not. They build them to order, just not every dealer gets allocation. Under MSRP for them is the norm.

Because sometimes they are. Such as here in the province of Ontario. No dealer can sell a new car for more than MSRP.

My dealer wanted $25k over MSRP for a GT350, and he got it. Not from me, but somebody paid it. If people are willing to pay, the dealer is going to let them.

Hey Guys,

My bro's 2015 sublime set him back $71K

I like driving her but it's too much HP/Torque for the drivetrain
can't really enjoy this otherwise beautiful & comfortable car--

That's why my 1SS was built for me yesterday, dealer told me!

Can't wait
