An oil catch can is used in (but not always) high-performance race applications where excessive blow-by (leakage past the piston rings) of air and fuel vapor occurs. This creates a positive pressure in the crankcase. Engine manufactures have placed a valve on the engine block which releases this pressure. This valve is known as a PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve. During engine operation, blow-by gases, as well as oil mist from the rotating components of the engine, pass through the PCV valve and are routed back into the intake for the engine to burn off. However, some of the oil mist and other products settle along the engine intake and over time form a "gunk." The oil catch can collects the oil mist and condenses the fuel vapors while allowing "cleaner" gases to be passed back into the intake. Typically the blow-by gasses are passed through a wire mesh, which give the vapor droplets something to adhere to. Since the oil catch cans condense the vapor portion of the gasses, they will need to be drained periodically of all the oil, fuel and other contaminants.

In summary, get an oil catch can ASAP.

Do I need a catch can made specifically for the Camaro or will a universal fit one do?

It doesn't have to be made JUST for the Camaro. However I highly suggest the Rx catch can. When I was at Tracy's shop I saw a ton of different catch can's that he bought and cut open to see how they were made. It was unbelievable how crappy some of the catch cans were. Some of them were just empty, basically nothing more than a Coke can. Just do yourself a favor and if you're going to get one buy the Rx catch can.

I think this is a comprehensive list for the LFX performance bolt-on options:

Cold Air Intake
Scoop and water bottle relocation
Ported Throttle Body
Exhaust
Tune
Reduce weight

LFX engine is in 2012 and up. If you have a 10 or 11 it'll be the LLT.

Also if you remove the engine cover and see an aluminum intake plenum you have an LLT. If you see black egg crate composite under the engine cover it's an LFX.

And the first time I laid eyes on our intake I thought IT was fugly.

The LFX manifold =

But - it's probably responsible for some of the extra power the LFX makes, so...
