Michelin Pilot Supersport Questions
Okay guys! So I've ran out of GY now and I've been doing lots of reading in the forum and online research. I'm basically sold with PSS for my zl1 now. Apprently people with 315 setup in the rear will face understeer problem and smoking a concrete wall would be the last thing I want ever happen to my car lol! So, heres the question to our experienced road course zl1 owners. What about a 295 setup in the rear? It's supposedly more neutral than 285 - 305 setup from the factory as it is preset little bit understeer for safety. And I see lots of 1le owners use 285-295 setup with their PSS. BUT, because of the power increase of zl1 versus a 1le, would it actually suffer from loosing traction when launching since the rear are bit of narrower? Or would it also cause more uncontrollable oversteer? Or the PSS is just so good that they work like a GY 305 size?

that little difference in width will make no difference with traction off corner. No worries and use the least understeering setup that you mention like the 295 rear/ 285 front IMHO. Once a little heat is in the tires on track, you will be fine. I ran a square 285 setup on my ZL1 and it worked great.

Street racing is illegal and extremely dangerous...

285/315. Excellent performance and decent wear.

Yea I know haha! I live in a small city with little traffic. As long as you don't be an ass racing in traffic hours cops are normally pretty generous about you punching at a light

I've used the MPSS 295/285 sizes on both my '12 ZL1 coupe and now my '13 ZL1 'vert. Excellent setup for me.

I'm planning on getting a 295/315 set up when I can grab some MPSS tires.

Go with the 315s in the rear. I know many people run them that have yet to chime in. People also run 315 Nittos and Toyo R888s. I have no idea why stepping down to the 295 would be a viable option. Get the 315/285 setup.
And the MPSS is not a great road racing tire and it's not a great drag racing tire, it's simply a good all around tire if you can foot the price of them. A drag radial will out hook it and an NT01 or something of the like will definitely out handle it. But the MPSS does cross the two pretty good. MPSS is not going to "Dead hook" in 1st gear, probably even at stock power, so light to light, you're still going to spin. If you go past stock power level then you're absolutely going to burn them off at the strip too. |

I hear ya man! I initialy was going to the 315 setup but understeer may be an issue when ur in a corner. Therefore u have to slow down more to get into the corner then pick up after and that's why hellcat sucks in the Nurburgring track. i may end up buying another set of 18 wheels with slicks just for drag racings but I'd like to race more in the local oval track and the Castrol raceway in Edmonton :P

Is the understeer from maintaining the stock front tire size of the 285? When I bought my MPSS (not installed yet) I upsized both front and rear for various reasons. Do you think I'll get understeer running 295s in front and 315s in the rear???
