CLUTCH issues

So I had been dealing with clutch pedal mash every time I really got on it. So I flushed the lines, no change. Then I recently installed a tick master cylinder and remote bleeder. Finally confident that is all in properly and I got on it yesterday, a little mash but not the pull to the floor.

Then this morning the clutch pedal travel was greatly reduced and at first I thought leak. I’m at gas station and no leak, but my brand new fluid is black. WTF.

Is it how I drive? Or is the OEM clutch? Slave cylinder?

Have you upgraded to the aluminum throw-out bearing support or is it still the OE plastic one?

I'm assuming you have a separate clutch reservoir, and if you flushed to clean fluid and already have that much dust back in the fluid, there has to be an issue with the CSC seal.

If there is no seperate clutch reservoir the fluid is shared with the brakes and only bleeding the clutch will not flush the whole system as the brake lines still have old fluid.

When the pedal is mashed to the floor is the fluid level down in the reservoir?

I had a tick adjustable master and kept chasing the adjustment level to get pedal engagement back to were it belonged. It was just out of warranty. I ended up going back to stock master. The other item I found on the clutch system was I was boiling the fluid in the lines on hot day at the strip which caused pedal issue. I have since upgraded the line and double heat wrapped it.

OE, Haven’t dropped the tranny yet.

I do have the separate reservoir, forgot to mention it. Solving the mash issue started there.

If putting in a new CSC seal would mean dropping the tranny, I would probably just go with an upgraded clutch and slave cylinder.

It was a hot day, but I upgraded the line when I put in the tick. I didn’t double wrap it though.

I can’t afford to upgrade the clutch right now so I am kinda stuck. I don’t want to fix OE parts when intent is upgrade down the road.

I also don’t want to be grounded to driving tame in the meantime. I am going to put in new fluid this weekend and take it easy for now.

Thanks for the posts

CSC is the concentric slave cylinder. I would not try to replace the seal. Just put a new one in. Most of the aftermarket clutches I have seen use the factory slave cylinders, they just provide a new one.

If I had one go bad, I would take that opportunity to change clutches too if I did not already have a built unit.

If you think you are boiling the fluid, you could use Motul brake fluid.
