Hi everyone first post so please take it easy ok?

Has anyone played around with carbon fiber drive axles?

yes. they are cool, lightweight, and expensive.

ive used them on full race cars before and blown them up. good part tho was that it doesnt damage things under the car as badly. but i'll stay with steel/aluminum for mine

I would like to see how much gain you would get in rev speed/tq compared to your $$$. My concerns are:

1. Heat-how much heat is going to transfer from the exaust/heat soaked pavment?
2. Duribality- how many miles before it fails?

Any suggestions on what company to avoid?

heatsoak isnt as big an issue as some might think. having a spinning shaft allows for heat transfer.

for durabilty.... thats not fully capable of being tested via number of miles. its more of the power you are applying thru it as well as the shocks/vibrations that get sent thru it

That's about what I though. I'm not going for anything extreme. I like the idea of a sleeper. If I had someone built it to 600 ft pounds it would be right in line with the TR6060.

You will not get a noticable gain with a CF driveshaft. Listen to Spike and stay with steel. I use 3.5" chromoly with billet ends and they have been bulletproof. If you are targeting 600 HP/600 TQ, the factory shaft should be fine. Your tires will give way long before the driveshaft. Put the $1000 or so for a CF driveshaft towards upgraded exhaust or another "noticable" performance addition.

the stock d/s will hold 600 ft lbs.

Were working on carbon fiber as well as aluminum driveshafts for the Camaro.

Wouldnt a CF shaft transfer more torqe energy to the wheels, less weight to transfer power through???
