Thinking Cutouts Now...

So I'm thinking about doing cutouts right before the MRT mufflers to give just a little bit more volume and rumble to the Camaro. I heard that down facing cutouts can actually quadrupple the amount of low frequency exhaust notes over non-cutout systems.

The reason for this is appearently sound reflects off the ground resulting in no loss to low frequencies which really helps with the v6.

So without further due, this is what I've came up with..

The Y pipe cutouts
http://www.andysautosport.com/honda/...e09090567.html

Tips that shoot exhaust downwards
http://www.ebay.com/itm/QTP-11250-2-...sories&vxp=mtr

Everything stainless steel of course to give the added look!

I'm on the fence guys... again.... yeah i know, an addiction has come about lol.

BTW this is for 2.5" setups which means I'll have to increase the size of the pipes from the Xpipe to 2.5" from 2.25".

More to follow!

Sweet I can't wait to hear. Don't you have to get 2.5 piping from an ls3 and not a l99?

yeah I think so but I'm not having any luck locating them so I may have to end up having the piping custom done at the shop which will cost quite a bit more to do.

I will have to start saving up for this and get this done next.

Yeah same but it sounds like it may be trial and error once again haha!

One thing thou, I'm not looking to spend a tonne on this so it will most likely be hybrid so I'm planning on leaving the cutouts open and using those down tips to direct sound to the ground.

I am told I need 2.5" piping at the minimum to get it installed properly and downpipes are a must if I plan on leaving this thing open 24/7.

I dont really feel like spending $289 on valves to open and close.

Regardless, between half the exhaust still sent through the muffler, this setup should be much more tollerable than a straight pipe plus of course we got the resonated xpipe doing its magic.

The stock SS mid pipes are 2.5" and are a direct bolt on. It's the easiest and cheapest way to go, if you can get them off of an SS owner that upgraded their exhaust.

I have the noweeds on my v6 Camaro. Cutouts right after the cats.

They are fine at idle. And with Ghost cam its cool. But sounds like crap higher than idle. Maybe because I don't have headers yet. I don't know.

Try the resonated x-pipe

Install after a resonated xpipe and let it do its magic before the exhaust hits those cutouts.

Issue is the noweeds only go in one place and that is right after the cats.

I should sell to someone with V8 ( yes same set ) and then get the normal cheaper cutouts after the xpipe.

Don't get me wrong the neweeds are very nice. Just not good for V6

You may get close to the sound of a V-8 but with a V-6 you are never going to get the engine to sound just like a V-8. If that is your goal I would recommend selling your car and just buying a V-8. I know it is fun trying but it can be expensive too. I read somewhere where a rice burner (I think a Lexus) had some kind of sound box installed from the factory between the air filter and the throttle body and the reviews said it was as close to a V-8 sound as they have ever heard. I don't remember if it was Motor Trend or Hot Rod or who I read it in at a Doctor's office. If you could find out about that box you might be able to get close. I know I'm no help, sorry. Has anyone heard of a sound box on a V-6 to make it sound close to the sound of a V-8?

I'm tempted to do the cutout install completely myself with buying the two items I listed above, a hacksaw, clamps and a 2.25" to 2.5" converter for now! does anyone think this can be done without me scewing up the underneath?

I will eventually get the 2.5" pipes but the quote I got was $330 installed which is way to steep for me for just getting larger pipes..... And then in a few months when I can afford it, take the car back into the shop and get the larger pipes and have the cutouts properly welded in.

The secret to the cutouts is appearently those down pipes which most guys dont ever bother with as most people who do cutouts are the V8 guys. Those down pipes work out to $100 for the two after shipping and tax. Then again you get what you pay for and I wouldnt use anything but stainless steel.
