Good Deal ?

So i recently bought a 2010 Camaro SS LS3 M6. In my opinion i think i got a good deal, but i would like to hear others opinion so tell me what you think.

I bought this Camaro from my bro-in-law, he has had for 5 years and bought it stock. It has 106,670 miles on it currently, he says mainly highway miles. I know my brother-in-law very well(20+years), I know he took great care of this car. So withen the past year and a half he has done the following performance mods, Corsa Sports catback exhaust, American longtube headers, CAI/cold air induction(dont know if those are the samething), BBK 95mm Throttle body, Brembo crossdrilled brakes, Hurst short throw shifter, Brain Tooley stage 4 night fury racing cam, Brian Tooley upgraded lifters and springs, Stage 3 Monster twin disk clutch, C5r Timing chain, and most recently did a cat delete. Putting out 489hp to the wheels. Custom dyno tune.

I have driven this car plenty of times and i know what it can do and i have loved it. I was pretty much there along for the ride as upgrades were happening, he did all the work himself except for the Clutch. He has kept up with all the maintence mobile 1 full synthetic oil and recently did the transmisson flush and same for the radiator fluid.

He was gonna trade it in, but i told him i wanted it and he let me buy it for the trade in price, thats at $13,000. The dealership was gonna give like $13,700 or something like that.

So what do you think, was that a good deal or not ?

NADA was $14,300, which indicates the dealer gave $0 consideration for all upgrades. A $14,000 trade in value is worth $14,875 off the net purchase price in Texas.

Your brother lost a chunk of money (Easily $4k) to take care of you personally as family and considering you knew the full history, you owe him big time.

Indeed I do, but I was under the impression that dealerships do not consider upgrades to a car, only what the car is worth not what the car is worth with upgrades. But don't they take all the upgrades into consideration when selling though ?

Yes, they sure do upsell upgrades. But downsell them when buying

I may not appreciate the message you are attempting to portray, did you think you're paying too much or you were doing him a "favor" somehow?

Your brother sold you a vehicle the dealer offered him $15k cash for (14k cash + 1k realized tax benefit performing a trade). He literally took a torch and burned 10 Benjamins to give you the car. The cheapest Full Bolt On I could find quickly was a 2013 @ $23k, discounting $5k depreciation and maybe another $1k for mileage puts a 2010 comparable value at $17-18k. FBO Camaros are common if you know where to look, they are available 17K+ and they sell quickly. Math for performance mods and "value" is much different than "NADA/KBB", especially on private sales. The short of it is basically a conversation that starts out with, "How much will it cost you to personally build that car on your own?". The answer is $20k+ You paid $14k instead of building your own? I hope you're mowing his yard for the next two years at least (or something equivalent).

Your brother could have easily sold his camaro privately for $17,000+

Congratulations on buying the Camaro. Yes, that is a good deal. Those mods are worth several thousand dollars on top of what you paid. You also know the person who owned it and took care of it. It's luck of the draw if you buy used anywhere else.

Lots of miles but a good price imo. I wonder when these 5th Gens will bottom out price
wise unless there really beat up, I can't imagine them dropping below $10,000 but I
guess they will. Of course that dealer would be retailing this car in the high teens I'm
Sure.

Around here a decent 4th gen never went below $10k, now going back up.
I think 3rd gen may have been closer to that mark, but nice ones are hard to find and are now going up too.
With the better quality of the 5th gen, the higher number of low mileage cars, and the current trend away from large v8 gas guzzlers, nice 2010's may already have bottomed out.
