LOL at KBB values!

So I saw a for sale ad here of some guy selling his V6 and I thought it was way too high. I built the same car on Chevy.com and it was only 2 grand more than he was asking, LOL. So I thought to myself, why do people try to ask so much for their used Camaros?

I went on KBB.com, entered my car and found out my answer. It said my car is worth $48,630 if I were to sell it privately. The kicker is I only paid $44,774 out the door (tt&L included).

LOLOLOL

Trade in value was $47,125! LOL! I should go trade it in on a brand new 2012 convertible and the dealer would have to pay me $2,500!

Good luck! Mine said KBB is not what they use in setting trade-in values. They use repo auction values.

Ya, KBB is for you to price your car if you have no idea at all what it's worth.

KBB is largely a dinosaur. It's really good for nothing anymore. They will fade away with the last generation who really ever heard of them.

NOBODY uses them.

I will say this though........ KBB had Bonnies car listed as 17,800.00 in good condition and 15,800.00 in fair condition. I'd place her car somewhere between good and fair (after taking pics and looking closer ) and Rogers gave us 16,000.00 so it was very close in our case. But Becky is as fair a person as I've ever met in cara dealers.

Bonnies car was not in the shape I thought it was.

Pay to play? Certainly this cannot be true...

Here is what the value of your car is ... whatever the hell you want it to be. You set limitations when you sell... a window of what you will take. If no one matches, you don't sell. It's magic. Now if you are stuck between a rock and a hard place and you MUST sell for a family emergency lets say... well then you are just SOL anyways. A dealer will sniff that urgency from a mile away

A lot of dealers use NADA or Auction results to price your trade, and KBB to show you retail price and then "Have I got a Deal for you"

You sound like an unfortunate soul that has learned the hard way. So, maybe follow your own advice the next time, huh? Good luck.

I mean, I traded in my 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee about 2 months ago for a Subaru and the dealer offered 3000. I looked up KBB and it was 5600, I said no deal till I got KBB and finally I got 5600 for the Jeep, and knocked off about 2000 off the Subaru.

ahhh BilJ, Been awhile... I imagine you know I missed you, dearly...

No... it hasn't. I attempted to sell my truck before purchasing the camaro to help with down payment..I went through Carmax because I refused to go through a dealer and get hosed. Carmax tried to play the same games with me because the truck was modified, so I sold it personally and got what I asked for it...

It is not rocket science....
