The Camaro Club of San Diego is making some changes. We have a whole new group of Officers and are moving back to “old school” club practices where FUN was the focus and talking and driving our Cars is the priority! We will also be focusing on the fifth Generation Cars and enthusiasts! We have a New sponsor in Courtesy Chevrolet and have changed our monthly meetings to the Dealership location in Mission Valley (1st Wednesday of the Month) … all are invited to Drop by for some potluck and Club talk! Our Fall Classic will be 8 Sept. 2012 and we plan to have several Events at or start from Courtesy Chevrolet. Our website is being updated and will have or link to all info and events soon. Our main Point of Contact is Mike (DET MSCL) … many of you already know him… he will be our Club distributor of News, Information, Cruises and Club events to the C5 Blog. If you live in the San Diego County area and have a Camaro, we would like to talk to you about joining our Club. http://www.camaroclubofsandiego.org/

Ken,

Your posting makes me think of the slogan..."Where OLD SCHOOL and NEW SCHOOL Muscle Cars Play"...

Thumbs up FUN FUN FUN

Thats what car clubs are suspose to be "FUN". I used to belonged to another car club (Chevys) here in San Diego which I will not mention. They had a tendency to be very clicklish so I parted ways. I pick and choose what car shows I go to with no commitment. Lets have some fun in 2012.

Which car show are you referring to?

Here is my perspective (in general)...most car shows are for some Charitable cause, so whether a Show is in the black, to some, would equate to whether the show sucked or not. That of course depends a lot on show planning...the Vendors that pay to participate (food, merchandisers), the Clubs / enthusiasts they get to show off their car(s) for all to see (and drool over), and other things like raffles, awards, entertainment, tables (so one doesn't have to stand while eating and drip BBQ sauce on their $75 car shirt!), etc.

So, what sucked for you? If you post constructive critisism, the right person will hear it, or you can leave a Private Message to Ken for next year's CCSD Annual Show.

MIKE: I agree with you, to put on any kind of event is a lot of hard work. It takes a lot of volunteers & dedication. I think what most people get upset is the way the trophys are picked or awarded. Just go out and have fun and enjoy the cars and of course all the new people you meet.

I don't know how to classify "it Sucked" ... I went to 5 shows last year and all were pretty dam good and one was in a parking lot! Now if you’re going to the show cause you think you may have a trophy car and all you’ve done is “bolt-on “some goodies... you’re probably not going to win with the current classification structure. At the CCSD Show there were over 50 that were pure Custom, Modified or Original Classics … that’s a tough group for the “point & click” type of mechanic to compete with. With that said perhaps we can make sure to have a class at the next event to consider the latest generation of factory Hot rods which will eliminate any inconsistencies in the selection process. / Ken

Please put Main Street America on your calendar for 2012. It will be on Sunday, July 22nd at Embarcadero Park North. We will again have two pony car classes, so whether you are "old school" or "new school", you can participate and compete against your peers.

As it has always been, all net proceeds from the show will benefit the San Diego Center for the Blind.

The March CCSD Monthly meeting is ONE WEEK from tonight (would be tonight if it wasn't a leap year...). One of the long time Club members will have his '68 RS on the Courtesy Chevrolet showroom floor, we will be showing off the new Club website and forum, and discussing upcoming Events (like the Desert Cruise to Borrego with the El Cajon Harley Owners Group, on Saturday, March 24th).

If I can get some high-tech gear hooked up to their big screen tv, I will show a music video by a local San Diego group named "Def Zero" of their song "Four Camaros" which was filmed in Rancho San Diego with 3 Club cars (mine was one)...I wonder if they are working on a new "Five Camaros" song?

Munchies after the Club meeting...guests are welcome to attend!
