I don't know why anyone is comparing this car to the vette. The vette is vipers competitor and a winning one at that all around if you ask me. Face it, the Hellcat will rule for now. The question is if GM and Ford will allow it for very long. I've said before. these companies are playing us all by doing this flip flop of ruling the planet with performance. It keeps us buying. I believe that they are all in it together.

im kinda dissapointed by GM HP management.....Vette Always have the favor over the Camaro....i should hold my self and wait for the Z06 or the ZR1 to come out instead of going for the ZL1 !my mistake !!!!! i did it bc i wanted a musclecar not a sportscar.......and now i will have to own a sportscar(vette) instead of a Musclescar(camaro) to run 1/4 miles...is it logical to use a sportscar(Track runner) instead of a musclescar to Win 1/4 miles...WTF GM thinking!!!

The Vette is being compared to the Hellcat because of the price.
Normally, musclecars are a lot less than Corvettes. This year things changed.

Really? Have you priced a GT500, Z/28 or a ZL1 in the last two years? That's a very weak reason to compare two very different types of vehicles. Beside a 707hp vette if produced will 40 to 50 grand more than the hellcat for sure.

The Camaro doesn't necessarily need 708hp to beat the Hellcat as the article states...simply cut some weight. Hell, I could dump a crate motor into a 2,800 lb. Monza and smoke that Dodge. Cut enough weight and about 600-615 hp would do it.

First of all its a DODGE = tranny breaking & rolled over components from the standard challenger platform, yeah they say they beefed it up but time will tell. Its is a good looking car, but IMO its still a DODGE. The ZL-1 & GT500 are still badass cars & at the end of the day when its all said & done the lipstick wears from the pigs mouth.

Not sure that Chevy can get there with the LT4. The dual plug per cylinder that Dodge is using probably allows for the huge output while still passing emissions. Also no AFM on the Hellcat.
I really like the look of the Hellcat vs the new Mustang. It fixed the various things in the < '15 Challenger like cheap looking tail lights. This car and the regular SRT8 will be a nice, larger car option for a lot of people.

If GM wanted to, they could roll out a 750hp Camaro ZL1 tomorrow. But they won't because you need to justify a business case for this decision. The business case now is how the sales of the Hellkitty fare and also what gotcha's are in store for potential owners.
The comparision of late has been the ZL1 and GT500. But if you look at both cars in base form, you get far more bang for your buck with the ZL1 than the GT500. Indeed you need to spend another 6K in optional upgrades on the GT500 to get it to roughly the same feature set that is standard on the ZL1. Will this also be the case with Dodge's new entry? I suspect it will be. Another thing that may slightly skew the business case is that the GT500 looks to go away for the 2015 Mustang. How long this will last no one seems to know. Regardless the outcome, it is a win for the consumer and I can't wait to see what GM does with the 6th gen. Last edited by Expunge; 07-23-2014 at 04:20 PM. |

All that GM would need to do is put the LT4 in the next gen Camaro to run with or beat Hellcat. It would likely weigh no more than 3,900 to 4,000 lbs, so it would have a weight advantage of 300 - 400 lbs. Sure it would have less HP, but it has nearly the same TQ.
Put them on the same playing field as far as weight, and thats like adding 40 HP to the LT4, or removing it from the Hellcat. But whether or not GM will do it is another story. I'm not sure they need to go after the hellcat.

This article is exactly what I have saying all along, the Camaro can't have more HP than the Vette. I don't think they will try to beat the Hellcat.

But I can certainly see a $60k 460HP aluminum framed fiberglass sportscar with a V8 rumble and honest 29 mpg highway appealing to the same kind of buyer. They are running 118mph trap speeds, and go close to 200mph up top. The Vette is a good performance value, even if HP@Brochure isn't on top. It's 1/2 the price of the Viper, same weight, and far better as a car, so not a Viper competitor. If your toy budget is $60k, where are you shopping? With the Hellcat, you are paying a pretty serious penalty in all other aspects of performance just to have the engine rating. Top speed and 0-60mph times are about the same as the Vette. 707HP is a hellavu number. But much like the Z/28, the Hellcat is a very focused design, giving up attributes for the sake of a single purpose. Much like I would not suggest a Z/28 is the better value than a Stingray, even if it is faster around a racecourse, I don't see the Hellcat's potential timeslips worth the trade-offs either. My guess is people will put their mod'd Hellcats into the 9's within 6 months of the release date. And they will join all the other 9 second hotrods out there. 10's have already been done in stock cars.

if the next gen camaro is lighter it won't need anyting more than the LT4 to rain all over the hellcats parade.
the hellcat is impressive for a challenger but not impressive for 707hp. thats 9second power producing 10 second passes.
