I had no idea mirrors different sizes

Just found out something new about my Camaro tonight. She has 2 different size side mirrors. The one on the passenger side is slightly longer than the driver side.

Yes they are different sizes. This was done because of cosmetic reasons and to compensate for the convex passenger side mirror.

Surprised to hear it was done for cosmetic reasons tbh - thought it was more of a safety issue to help see round her hips

I don't agree about the cosmetic part since symetry would dictate the mirrors should be the same size. Split the car down the middle and mirror it. Everything would be the same on both sides of the car. I think the reason is that the driver side mirror is closer to your eyes and therefore can be smaller. The further away the mirror is, the larger it has to be to get the same field of vision as the driver's mirror. Using a convex mirror helps but then objects appear further away.

just a guess, but maybe the pass. mirror has to tilt rearward more to actually see out of it. so with the tilt rearwards it might not stick out any more than the driver side. then again I might be all wet
