Cheapest and best way to go from single to dual exhaust
I would like to go from single to dual exhaust tips. And also make the exhaust louder than my current single tipped exhaust.
I mostly just want the look of the dual tips and have the valve open so i get the right rumble. Is my best route to just buy a dual tip exhaust from another SS? Will the zl1 and z28 exhaust fit? Do I need everything from the cats on back or just the end cans? Do I only need the exhaust and the diffuser or do I need anything else? How is the exhaust valve operated? Can I just lock it in the open position? Thanks! |

For the NPP You can get either the full cat back or just the mufflers and tips if they have been cut off. Default config with out vacuum hooked up is open. You will not be able to have them in shut position unless you buy the NPP in a box kit of manually close them and hold the valve shut some way. I swapped a full cat back and they just stay open full time and love it.
You will need a new rear diffuser. |

Is the npp from the zl1 the same as on the 1le? Would it be a direct fit?
Thanks! |

It should still fit just fine. I know some people have done it, so hopefully they chime in with actual experience.

The ZL1 exhaust will fit on the SS even tho it is slightly bigger. I went with the Stainless Works Retro Chambered catback for the ZL1 and it sounds amazing on my SS.

Do I only need to buy the diffuser or do I also need to buy the bumper structure under it? Can I reuse the bolts and nuts from my old diffuser?

All you have to buy is the diffuser, you will reuse all the bolts you pull off

I am running the Magnaflow 3" ZL1 catback with 4" quad tips and they fit just fine on the 1LE. But OP, I think you could just get the SS NPP diffuser and weld on some quad tips for cheap. Although those big cans have to go.

Yes, the big cans have to go. I also want it to sound better than stock. So I'll probably just end up buying a stock npp and a diffuser and leaving it with the baffles open.

See if you can get an NPP exhaust for less than a axle-back kit (who's sound you like). If not, the axle back or muffler / tip swap would be the cheapest.

If I get hold of a Borla ATAK at a good price I'll be selling my NPP exhaust with tips for ssclones 4 in. I live in California, Oxnard so maybe you could pick it up. |
