We need to find somebody that has dropped a LS7 in their Camaro and see what kind of numbers its putting out at the track (not the dyno). The LS7 is a incredible engine but I wonder how much it would like the weight difference between the Z06 and a Camaro???? 3175lbs vs 3860.... big difference!

I split your points, Mac...

1) Chev has had such a car since Fall '08...it was unveiled @ SEMA '08 as the LS7 "COPO" concept and, like the Leno TT-LLT unveiled @ SEMA '09, has been, to my knowledge, used for "static display", only. No known video or "driving impressions" from any source for either car... LPE unveiled a TT-LS7 @ Camaro5Fest II. Livernois apparently was involved in at least one LS7. And Thomson Automotive (www.thomsonautomotive.com) has more than a little experience with GM/Chev/LS7, while packaging interesting LS engine combos including Mark Stielow's OPTIMA Challenge-winning '69 Camaro LS9 and the original LS7 Solstice...

I suspect the Camaro Team knows of the existance of at least one LS7 Camaro for "engineering purposes only", as well as the "angel-hair'd" COPO...

2) It wouldn't deliver, and I wouldn't expect, Z06-matching performance...but then, neither does the BOSS. The BOSS is close to the LS3-engined GS...which is some distance from a Z06. The ZL1 is "predicted" by some to be "Z06-like" in its final iteration...which leaves an awful lot of room between ZL1 and an LS3 SS...in PRICE and PERFORMANCE. Let's "close the gap"...just as the BOSS has done between the Shelby and the GT.

BTW, the power-to-weight ratio favors an LS7 3800 lb Camaro over an LS3 3300 lb GS...so all the hand-wringing over a GS being "matched" by a BOSS only adds credibility to the likelihood of a properly-executed LS7 "ZEE" thumping the BOSS...

Didn't the LS7 5Gen have a rating of 550HP?

Complementing upgrades include GM Performance Parts-developed headers and air intake system that will be offered at the Camaro’s launch in early 2009. The LS7 also is modified with a wet-sump oiling system; the production engine features a dry-sump system that requires an external oil tank.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, said "concept". Also probably trying to do a little marketing for GMPP. This is an indication of what YOU AND I can do with the LS7 if we owned one. I've heard there isn't a lot of room with what GM can do as an OE on the LS7...................but that is just a rumor.

I agree with you Pete.

I wish that ZL1 car was tearing up the streets so the Z/28 announcement could be made.

I did speak with an an anonymous source at GM about the ZL1. His exact words "It is track animal. People are going to love it. It looks best in white." This source is an engineer who does not usually get this enthusiastic. The car must be really good. Before anyone asks, I did NOT ask him about anything Z/28. and would never post anything that was part of a private discussion meant to stay private. Accolades about a product that has been announced are a different matter.

What does this mean to the Z/28 we want our 5th Z/28 and we want it now group? It means that a 5th Gen with a bit less weight in the nose (LS7) and a bit less weight overall would be an even more aggressive track animal by inference.
