EXACTLY. Muscle cars have superchargers. Ricers have turbos. its not just a "its because i say so" thing. take a listen to the turbo spooling, then compare that to the whine of the supercharger. the sound a muscle car makes is part of what it is. its just my opinion, but i say keep the same basic engine in there. a freakin' huge v8.

I don't necessarily think this is GM trying to "appeal to a wide arrange of customers". A smaller, turbocharged V8 is a result of the stricter CAFE mileage requirements in the future. I don't think this is a bad thing though. The smaller V8 will probably make equal or more power than the LS3. It could be alot worse......imagine a V6 powered Corvette.
As for the 6th gen Camaro engine, I personally think the most powerful engine will be a twin turbo V6. I seem to remember reading an article about the Alpha platform being designed to use a V6. If the 6th gen will be based on the Alpha, the death of the V8 Camaro might be soon.

Turbochargers are more efficient than superchargers; they aren't driven by engine power. GM has made some killer turbo muscle cars before: the '89 Turbo T/A, and the Buick Grand National, for example.

Maybe with a 2L 4-banger Turbo, but if you are talking about 4-5 L V8 turbo I am sure GM or aftermarket can put together an exhaust that would sounds pretty d...good....I am just waiting to get a look at a C7.

It's always been my thought that the Z28 would end up with a smaller turbo motor. I have no proof or justification for it. Just been my guess.

No ... My 2.0 Redline with Magnaflow exhaust actually sounds much better than the V6 Camaro. GM makes awesome small displacement engines. If you researched the 2.0 Ecotech, the engine is a marvel of engineering.

I think its a neat idea to do it to the Vette but I would leave the Camaro out of this. I think there are to many simularities as it is and this would lead to a greater differentiation in the Vette and Camaro. Move the Vette more in the exotic sports car direction and keep the Camaro moving in the all American over-sized motor muscle car direction. This is what lead to Pontiac and Oldsmobile's demise. Too many cars with too simular features. Keep things different so people can clearly choose what they want and don't just get confused and buy an import or worse, a Chrysler!!

That said, a gen V small block displacing something in the neighborhood of 5.3L should manage to be at least the performance equal to this engine, for less money.
