A Pillar removal

How do I go about removing my A-pillar cover safely on my ZL1 convertible 2013? I know there is a small air bag behind it and need to be really careful when removing it. Iv'e looked for a DIY but can't find one. I thought I saw one at one time. I'm wanting to cover the piece with leather. Thanks.

Disconnect the battery, some say this is optional and I can't remember if I did this or not. Then pull at the top where the headliner connects to pop the clips. Pull on the rest to unclip it. Then slide the pillar towards the cabin as it slides in the front part of the dash when installed. Finally there is a sliding clip that secures the pillar to the A frame. Remove the clip from the plastic pillar cover piece, not the actual pillar of the car.

I don't have a convertible, but I didn't disconnect my battery and I've removed my pillar a few times.
There is a retaining clip in there, that is a major pita, or at least mine was.
