2010 Camaro SS vs 2010 Subaru Impreza WRX STI
So, my best friend is planning on getting an Impreza, and I plan on getting a Camaro.
Just to end our arguments, does everyone else agree that stock, my Camaro would win in a 1/4 Mile Drag? But after we get them and modify them, who knows what would happen. Last edited by Cauterize; 02-22-2010 at 10:29 AM. Reason: Clarification. |

Win what? Lots of different things to 'win' at. Race up a snow covered road? 1/4? Autocross?

My friend has an 02 wrx and I have a 2lt camaro. He's always talking crap about how he could beat me with ease. I'm not so sure that he can. He does have a few mods to his car and I don't have any yet, but will soon, and once I do it's time for a drag strip run to shut him up once and for all.

Stock for stock, The SS has taken the STi in the 1/4 as well as many reputable circuits. Small modifications like tunes would probably put the STi in front of the SS though.

i can offer a little insight to this even though i got a challenger....my friend has an 07 STI stock and i have a challenger R/T 6-speed all stock as well. while i never got to go to the track with him, i can say we have had them on a very dead stretch of road where he lives. from the dig, his car just kills mine as all of his wheels hook up and blast off, but as i hit 2nd and 3rd i am able to reel him in, actually easier than i thought and end up passing him in 4th. now i dont know if its an exact 1/4 mile possibly a bit shorter, but its close. we all know the weight disadvantage the challenger has, especially over a car like the STI, but i was still able to beat him 3 out of the 4 times we ran it....so with that said, the SS is faster than my R/T, so I would give the nod to the SS.
edit: i dont know how much faster the 2010 STI is over the 07, so keep that in mind too. also, i know those cars respond very well to mods, giving them them the ability to flat out fly.

I ran a WRX (non STi) when my Mustang was bone stock. I launched good and we were about even til 3rd gear, then I just started pulling away.

If u can drive u will beat him on the drag strip and should beat him on road course too..
now that GM dumbified it the launch control should make u able to drive good at the drag strip

WRX will spank you in the corners. Ive owned both. The new WRX are meh ok, the older ones however really are street legal rallycars. And remember the STi's are much much more of a car than the reg WRX, theres a lot more going on with the trim upgrade, its the same from an N/A Impreza to WRX.

Funny enough I went "Playing" with a Same gen GT as yours in my 04 STi and walked it beginning to end.

STI will have the advantage at the start ( credit the AWD) but once that has gone by the extra horsepower and torque of the Camaro will easily reel the STI in. In a road course the STI will have an advantage in the corners but The Camaro can make up lost ground on the straights. As far as a drag race the Camaro will win as far as a road course event goes it would be a 50/50 odds with a slight edge to the camaro in the straights and outright acceleration and the STI on off the line launch and cornering

With the '10 STi? Probly its not as good as the older GDB platform cars. Good for the Camaro though its not like I hate them lol.
