Remember... "Straight through" mufflers, known for the past 80 years as glasspacks, were designed decades before high-performance engines existed; when a 300 cubic-inch, 6- or 8-cylinder engine had about 4:1 compression and made about 25 HP. I guess this is what makes them such a high-performace design, right?

AFM doesn't make that much of a difference.

The modern engine sounds a little more mild......... if you're only gonna swap out the mufflers.

Had Flowmaster origional 40's on my 2003 Mustang Mach1 with a Bassani X-pipe that had competition metallic cats and it sounded amazing. Flow's belong on stangs

I am looking for a mellow but somewhat deeper tone for my 2LT/RS. Any suggestions?

I'm going with the FlowMaster American Thunder catback system on my SS. From what I see they are a 3" stainless system for $800, that's good if you ask me. I've got the axle back system on my LT and they sound good and the butt dyno feels a little better ...

I believe it's the 40's ... The higher the number the less noise ...

The American Thunder uses the Classic 40's cans ...

According to FM's website: http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/index.php?cat=1

I would say they sound level between the 2 are about the same actually. Look at the bar graph beside the pic for the 40 and the 44. They are about the same. Also read the write up for each one. I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

The sound and the rumble of flowmaster is excellent. It fits in the looks of a muscle car
