Heat exchanger replacement
I am swapping out my intercooler heat exchanger tomorrow for a cooler logic one. I have read in the owners manual that draining and refilling this system is difficult and calls for a special procedure. Does anyone who has swapped out the coolers have any tips on draining and refilling?

This is what worked for me. Once you have the cooler in place and both hoses filled with fluid, (yes, manually fill both hoses) blow air back the opposite direction just enough to push the air bubble that is in the pump out. then hook everything back up, and verified that the pump in circulating fluid.

I followed GMs procedure which is to fill thru the filler cap until its fill and the bubbles are out then run car for one minute to let more bubbles out then add more coolant. Repeat a whole bunch of times! Repeated the procedure the next morning and the next! I just ordered the resevoir from D3 performance engineering so that should make filling much easier. They are doing a group buy right now for a pretty good price.

I have done a few of these, Dexcool.
I use a funnel with an adapter from Home Depot so it fits in the factory fill. Keep a little coolant in funnel so air can still get out. Remove pump relay and jump with a fused wire on/off on/off (thats with the engine off). Then check again next day. |

I've been doing it with engine on.. So take out fuse and to it that way.. I just installed a heat exchanger with a bleed valve so it suppose to shoot a solid stream to b good correct? Cause its still shooting bubbles

No reason to have car running, the relay is under the hood fuse box. Diagram is on the relay or find the hot terminal with everything off then go diagonal across to pump terminal. Use a small fused wire if your not sure.
You can use HPT to run pump if you have it. I like having a small funnel attached to the fill so you have extra fluid and get all the air out. IMHO you should have a reservoir, filling through that pee hole sux. |

I agree. Put a reservoir on and the filling and bleeding procedure is easy as can be.

I got the Katech h/x and it has a bleeding line so what I did was blow air in the tank till the line shot a straight steam .. Think it worked?
