First (and last I hope) Flat Tire

Went out to the ZL1 around lunch time to give a fellow worker a ride. Cranked it up an we commented on how great the exhaust sounded. Started toward the exit and then I saw the orange tire symbol on the dash, damn!!

15 pounds of air in the LR tire. Lucky it was not a fast leak and I made it to a tire store about 1 mile away.

Good news the repair only took 30 mins, the bad news is the tire machine scratched the wheel

The manager said he will take car of the wheel repair.

Oh well. Guess that gets the first cosmetic damage out of the way. Hope it is the last.

Exactly. Now I'm glad you didn't have to have it towed. You have to watch everyone who works on this car LIKE A HAWK or you will get shafted. PERIOD.

Those wheel mounting fellas have to be watched. The balance machine wheel locks sometimes have bad bushings that hold the wheel, and scratch scratch! So much to keep on top of! Ain't it great!? Had my second Whopper in this thing! Tasted just as good as the first one.

Yeah...that's great and all, but you're not really pushing the boundaries unless you get it with Ketchup on it.....

Gary, had this shop previously repaired your Z06 or CTS-V tires? What I'm asking really is...were they experienced in Performance tire repairs?

Also, what was the nasty little culprit that caused the hole?

Gary, Mike wants to know if you carry a tire plug kit?
We have one in every vehicle. Never had to use one in a car, but used them many times in our trucks & they have been life savers.

A: They have worked on Corvette tires before. Although not mine

A: It looked one prong of an electrical wall plug. Not a lot of tread on these tires even new.

I certainly agree. I was only traveling about 5 miles an hour so it might not have been too bad.

Yes.. the tire repair kits are good. But you still need AIR to go in it. Keep in mind, don't just buy "any" tire kit. The good ones come with better than average hole reamers. They are not all the same so look around first!

On trips I carry my own 10 gal canister of compressed air.. so you can plug it and make it to wherever.

I still want a donut for my ZL1. Gotta find something!

If there was one good thing about the incident it was the fact no tow was needed. If I had not gone out at lunch time but waited until the end of shift it may have required a tow. :(

Be careful. A patched tire, IIRC, loses its Y speed rating. I wouldn't track my car with a patched tire.

I am a bit concerned about this even though the store manager say's this patch would still allow tire to retain speed rating.
