I just got my V6 Camaro last week, and really like it, i traded in a 05 Dodge Ram single cab 4x4, with a HEMI!!!, and since driving this Camaro for a week or so, im not disappointed in the least, Really, really like it. My first Chevy, First Camaro, and couldnt be happier, and feel like 2ltCamaro said, i didnt buy it for a race car, i just loved how the Camaros looked. I didnt bother to drive a SS, cause i couldnt afford one, i drove what i could afford, loved it, and got it.

Well that certainly makes sense. Best of luck with your new ride!!

What about more V6 DI options

The 3.6DI has been out for 3 years and now Ford bringing out a 3.7DI to compete. I would love to see an updated 3.6DI with slightly bigger valves and better exhaust or better yet GM should bore it out or have a 3.8 or 4.3DI engines the 3.8DI with say 345hp and maybe 370hp for the 4.3DI and have that be a true midlevel camaro RS instead of the RS being an option. Then you could have say a twin turbo or supercharged 475hp V6 Z28 RS package as well as the big supercharged 555hp Z28 that and cut down about 200 pounds off of the car.
To tell you the truth I think the car looks good a little update tweeking in the future and say cut weight about 300 pounds improving braking, economy and handling. Also improve the visability and maybe a little more trunk space and then it will be absolutely perfect. I can see it now a 2013 Camaro and Z28 weighing about 3400-3500 with DI engines with weight saving and DI off the current your looking at 31MPG with V6 and a DI V8 pumping out 455hp and about 28MPG which is good enough. Zero to 60 in about 5.5 for improved v6 and about 4.5 for SS the Z would blast in at about 4 seconds. At least .94 or better lateal Gs and we have a world beater.

The 3.7 Duratec motor is not direct inject... The 3.5 Ecoboost is a DI motor...

Well said Calfan! Thanks for the specs!

Calfan, WELL DONE!

As a previous owner of a 1975 350 V8 Munci 4 Speed Camaro Coupe, I have to tell you that I am very happy with my 2LT M6 SW 2010. It's my daily driver and it's 200% more functionaly than my 75 was for so many reasons. I may have enjoyed more torque from y old 350 (almost 400 pd/ft and over 350 HP) but it came at a tremendous cost at the pump and it was so very thirsty it was absolutely a weekend car. I have driven every generation of Camaro and this one is absolutely the best yet!

My 2010 2LT is a BLAST to drive and the power hooks up far better than my 75 did, even with all my mods of limited slip, frame connectors, 4 wheel disc , suspension mods etc. My country mechanic (who builds old GM cars for a living) said it best. GM is going to put my custom hot rod projects out of business! I can't build a better car for even double what a new 2010 Camaro costs, V6 or V8! This he said after he rebuilt a 65 Chevelle from two parts cars for a total of over $35,000 CDN.

SO, if you want a safer, more efficient and better handling Camaro to use as a daily driver, order yourself a V6 2010 Camaro with a manual 6 speed. YOU WILL LOVE IT, every time you get into it!

I am now leaving for a drive to anywhere, it's sunny and mild out! Later everyone!

eB

Of the 15ea. Z28's offered over the past 34 years of Camaro history, only 4 have had more power than the 2010 V6.

Of all the 53 engines offered, only 11 have had more Horsepower than the 2010 V6.

Comparatively, the 2010 weighs best against the 2nd gen models; 1970 – 1981. Of the 2nd gen models, only 1 engine has offered more Horsepower than the 2010; the 1970 ½ Z28.

The 1st gen models weighed in at approx. 3040 lbs.
The 2nd gen models weighed in at approx. 3700 lbs.
The 3rd gen models weighed in at approx. 2940 lbs.
The 4th gen models weighed in at approx. 3440 lbs.
The 5th gen cars weigh in at approx. 3700 lbs.

If you’ve been a fan of the Camaro and it’s heritage, the 2010 V6 is amongst the top 25% of the most powerful Camaro’s produced in all 5 generations of this model car.

The SS, at 426 HP, is amongst the top 3%.

I think the 304 in the 6 is more shocking then 420 in the V8. You expect the 8 to be powerful, you expect it to push you back in the seat. You get in a V8 and you expect to feel the power. The 6 though you don't expect it at all if you don't know the car. I tell people I bought the 6 and they always say "why"?! Start in on the numbers and their jaw usually drops. Get them in the car and they are blown away.

When I had my mustang and people asked "is is the V8?" I always said "no, it's just the 6.".
When people ask me now if it's the v8 I say "No, it's the 6"

Only to some people .. you actually can have too much power especially if you sacrifice durability in the name of power...

+1 to that. It's a complete animal in that sport mode, and even more so in the manual flappy paddles. After driving mine spiritedly in those modes, I know that the power of an SS would not only be unneccesary for my road-only driving, but also probably scare the $hit outta me.

That being said, there will ALWAYS be people that want the most power. If only to be able to pull up somewhere and say yeah it's got ###hp.

The fact is, they both go a limited 155 and most SS or V6 won't ever see a speed near that. For the few that do, I will marvel over your engine builds, come to car shows to see your shiny Maggies, then hop back in my 2LT and head home, completely content.

Having just stepped out of an '07 Mustang GT (manual) that I had for 3 years (leased) and bought a 2010 V6 Camaro (auto) here's my take on the Mustang / Camaro question.

1) I don't like how that 2010 Mustangs look, part of my decision to go Chevy vs another Mustang.
2) A new V8/GT would set me back about 32k. The V6 Camaro set me back 24k. Huge Factor.
3) The Mustang had a Live Axle, The Camaro has IRS. Fine. Sorry but the Mustang still handled better and just stuck to the road better around sharp high speed corners. The Camaro feels tight too in terms of traction but the whole car sways so much it's a bit scary by contrast.
4) The Mustang had 302 HP I believe. The Camaro V6 has 304. Ok, well I have to say again, the Mustang, hands down, had way more power all over the RPM range. It's not so much at launch, it's more when you hit the 40mph - 80mpg range where the Camaro just has to really shift down 2 gears or so to really get it to kick in. The Mustang you just stepped on the gas and Whhhhhhhhhamm... went from 50 to 90 in a blink.

5) The Camaro is arguably a more "Refined" car. Feels more expensive. Looks more expensive. It DOES have decent power. One of the fastest cars out there in my daily commute around florida. But at the same time it's def not in the same league as even the '07 GT and I try to remember that as BMW's and idle next to me at the traffic light. My stock GT I'd whoop the pants off of nearly anything next to me. The Camaro (again.. V6), I'm never quite sure and it's 50/50 whether I'll be staring at their rear end and I have to make a mental note to simply not even try so I don't embarass myself.

I love the Camaro though. It's just a different type of car. I'm sure the SS would whoop the doors off the of the stock GT and so it's all a matter of perspective.

Powerwise, comparing the 304 HP Camaro to the 05'-'09 series GT 302hp mustang is simply foolish. The numbers look the same. But hey... the numbers are really misleading.

Handing? High speed cornering (even bumps yes) and whatnot, the GT was better. Around the town just general highway stuff? The Camaro is the better beast.

I will say this too, there are like 5 billion Mustangs around down here in FL. I think I've seen like 4 Camaro's. That makes me feel a bit special I know that won't last but I have a few years to go I think.

Bottomline: Camaro is 10k cheaper. Almost as fast. Looks better than the 2010 series mustangs. Looks expensive. Drives well. Better fuel economy (avg 22.5mpg compared to about 18mpg in the GT).

I agree with your "bottomline" but I like both cars, the price is excellent, i beat the piss outta my camaro(V6/M6) and still get right @ 25mpg's & thats hard to beat for a big ass car w/ 304hp! Although I cant wait to see the new 2011 Stang V6's out on the road.
You expect a 8 cylinder car to be fast, but these new 6's are sweet!

Hmmm, while horsepower numbers are similar, the v8 Mustang has more torque, and that's where it has the advantage. Also, the Mustang is lighter, so factor that in, and yes the v8 Mustang should beat the v6 Camaro, and the torque will let you feel that.

That said, this past Saturday, in the 1/8th mile, the only v8 Mustangs that beat me weren't stock. Although I'm not stock either, the ones who just had bolt ons barely got me. The stock v8 Mustangs are a driver's race with the v6 Camaro and until the 2011 Mustang GTs hit, the current crop of Mustang GTs is done against any SS. Will be interesting to see what happens when the 2011 do hit the streets and strips though!!
