All joking aside, there was a planned trim level beyond the 2SS. It was called the "SSX." It never went into production and was shown at SEMA a long time ago, but I like how it looks (except maybe the giant rear wing.) It was an early precursor to the ZL1.

Are you sure it's not a 12SS? Check the bottom of the steering wheel.

I replied with, "But... that was a Mercedes...?!?"

He didn't even miss a half of a beat before explaining that HIS was a special BMW Mercedes, special made just for him.

Another dude, recently, was admiring my Camaro. He said that he had one just like it at home, but his had a "mail slot." However, he didn't know if his was V8 or a V6, even though he'd had the car for a couple of years, and was an "enthusiast."

Then, I stopped at a used car lot a while back. There was a Camaro on the lot, and, honestly, it had the stupidest looking wheels I have ever seen on a Camaro... to the point of comical (I won't describe them here, just in case some member has those things!). I actually took a picture, it looked so dumb. The salesman came running out of his coop, to try to sell me this car. He very slyly told me, in whispered tones, that it was a very special and rare edition of Camaro... and you could only tell by the special wheels.

Sometimes, I just think EVERYONE is full of crap.
Yeah we'll all meet a few people like that in our lifetimes.

Customer saw me working on an old MG and was curious what year it was, then replied they had one 10 years newer (impossible since the MGB stopped in 1980 and this was a 77)

Then they said something like, "Yeah, nothing beats old American cars like this one"

So I reminded them that this was not American but British, and they replied that oh nooo this is a special model designed and manufactured in america and was an american owned-model, a limited edition. he could tell by the headlights

Later I heard him bragging about his supposed 1985 MGB to another customer, claimed he dropped a 350 in it.

I've actually owned two MGBs over the years, 72' chrome bumper and a 79' rubber bumper. Your correct, the last year was 1980! That year did come with an optional V8 auto trans.
I actually seen one with a Chevy 350 small block under the hood at the Philly auto show years ago, I think it was also a 1980.
