K&N vs fully stock. Disappointed

So after alot of research on the forum, I decided to spend extra money on the K&N carbon fiber cold air intake. I went to a corvette specialty shop RPM motors in Santa Clarita California. We first ran my car stock hood closed and then open. Averaged 488 power 495 torque. We then ran the K&N the following Monday it was 10 degrees hotter my car lost power and gained torque.482power 499 torq. I drive a m6 zl1 with 15,000 miles. I am now in the process of returning the K&N and will be installing a roto fab I will post the dyno results for the RF as soon as it's installed. RPM motors uses a land and see dynamite dyno wich is put under load to give a realistic result. In all fairness to K&N my car did feel faster and sound incredible vs stock but I can't accept a loss of power from a bolt on mod that said estimated 31 horse power gain no tune required. I would have been happy with even +10.

I don't think rotofab can be sold/shipped to California due to emission requirements in that state. It will be a better CAI option though!

I'd be interested in seeing the difference between these 2. I know the K&N has a smaller air filter which COULD possibly limit power increase.

Appearantly you didn't do your research because K&N is one of the worst on the market. CAI and Rotofab are up there

I was willing to sacrifice a little power to have the carb legal ability. I work in Los Angeles and was trying to stay legal. Since I also live in AZ oh well for that. RF has a trumpet style air filter wich my dyno guy says is part of the huge advantage. Not many people who have installed intakes do before and after dyno proof I just wanted to share my experience.

Different days, different atmospheric conditions. You could probably go back a third day with the K&N and get a third reading then go back a fourth day with the stock box and get a fourth reading.

I am not that far from you and had a Roto-Fab installed locally for for just less than the retail price.
If you return the K&N keep the CARP sticker

WYKDZL1,
What year is your ZL1 ? Keeping the carb sticker I don't think will matter if it's 2015. The K&N is only carb legal in cali up to 2014. I have 15, with a RF, like you I wanted to stay legal since I live in Cali. I though about buying the K&N from amazon and taking the sticker out and then returning in un-used of course...lol , But I don't think it would be legal since the card sticker is for 14 and my car is 2015 ? I did order from RF and they did ship to me....I think if you "tell" them it is for off road use only, they will ship to you?

Does the K&N require a tune to access its performance potential ?
It may flow more air than can be handled with stock tuning.
The Roto Fab was engineered to not require a tune.

Come on stop spreading rumors please! Unless YOU had one shipped to YOUR house in California then you are spreading false information over the internet, and we know that never happens.

I just received a replacement filter for my Roto-Fab shipped to Southern California last week! I guess I need to remove the Roto-Fab and new filter and send it back. If you have bought aftermarket parts, you know they always mark off road use only to escape any legal entrapments.

I was turned onto RPM motors when I owned my 2006 Cadillac CTS-V. We had a dyno day there! I am happy with my Roto-Fab. I have my stock intake to reinstall if needed. I will wait for an emissions test, or read where others are failing it before reinstalling. If it is anything like before when I had a Volant on my Escalade the tech didn't even concern himself with the box. You did it properly. Before and after. It would have been more valid if you had installed the K&N after the stock pull. The car cools down, and you get a more accurate result. It just forces you to spend the day at the shop. Good luck on the Roto-Fab install.

In all fairness to the K&N filter, you did run it on a hotter day(engine worked harder-> loss in power). Someone mentioned testing both(stock vs am) throughout similar conditions.
